20190528 Qld Lara Wetlands Birthday Night

Image
20190528 Waking to Des saying happy Birthday with a plane to go out for dinner but after talking with Jo I was more than happy to spend the night around the fire with Des cooking Jaffles for the crew. Once again we go on the hunt for supplies for tonight dinner and came up with more than enough so I prepare the mince ready for another night full of fun and laughter. Who said us oldies don't know how to party. Well, as I prepared the mince I only think it's fair  Des and Ross  do the honour's and feed this crew. Keep them coming boy as Gertie returns for 2nds, but I must admit there's nothing better than Jaffle's on the fire, except for camp oven stew of cause. Gee, Des looks exhausted, or is that because he never shuts up telling his tales. Now who might that cheeky bugger be trashing my photo, then after checking I recon it could be that young buck camped behind us, bloody Pete's at it again. I bet if it was a young chick wanting a photo he

20199525 If you’re looking for that special camp, where the wildlife roam free and peace and tranquillity is everyone’s dream and where there’s lot’s for kids to learn and experience, either sitting around a fire, toasting marshmallows or swimming in the Artesian Pool is an amazing experience. Theirs a playground, or kayak through the wetlands or just take a stroll or bicycle ride through the tracks, no matter what, you will be sure to return to this amazing camp in the bush. Seven years ago, this was just a dream, off the  Landsborough Hwy,  the sign  “Lara Wetlands Bush Camping” stands tall at the entrance to a camper’s wonder. Michael’s Way” is in memory to a special person in Jo’s life at the time who lost his life in a helicopter accident in 2014. The road leading into Lara may be bull dust but due to the continuous grading the road is smoother than most of the bitumen roads we’ve been on. Des and I are gob smacked, this place is truly a camper’s paradise, I l

20190524 Qld Lara Wetlands

20190524 OMG, I can’t believe it, Des has decided to go into Lara Wetlands to stay with our dear friend Jodie, and trust me that’s big for Des as it’s 13ks of red bull dust, but we were told it was just grated and there have been over a hundred vans through who said the dirt road was smoother then some of the roads they drove on. Our first visit at Lara Station was August 2012 when Michelle was still with us, those times will for ever be implanted in our memories, I remember having tear in my eyes as we waved farewell from our moving van. A lot has changed since then but now it’s time to make new memories with I’m sure, new friends. As we pull into Lara we noticed Jodie mowing as she looks up with a big grin on her face, surprise, surprise, after a hug and hallow we're given a few choices where to camp then leave her to complete her job. Jo introduced us to Bec and Peter who live at Lara in their Van helping out at the Station and in the afternoon their meet around the fire

20190523 Qld XXXX Hill to Longreach

Image
20190523 After leaving Stonehenge we head north to Longreach where Des was telling me of this lovely camp spot he stayed on his last trip, but the only thing that has me concerned is its at a cattle yard, so we shall just wait and see, but first I want to check out a couple of tourist spots a couple of k’s up the road. XXXX Hill  Is a self-explanatory name – an infinity lookout, and that it is. But the real reason people stop here is to take in the views of our amazing outback, the Thompson River floodplains and the surrounding Johnstone Ranges. The Address Book The idea of the address book is to build up Stonehenge history by gathering rocks and use them to spell out either your name or where you’re from. This tradition started years ago by the then mailman, but I don’t know why. Now for that long trip along this narrow stretch of road to Longreach. The good thing about the outback is you can stop anywhere for a toilet break, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go, gee
