20120229 VIC Paynesville

Image
20120229 Paynesville is surrounded by Lake King and Lake Victoria in the middle of the Gippsland Lakes and Raymond Island which is just off the shoreline and is assessable by a car ferry and the island is also home to a large Koala colony. On the way to Paynesville. We parked up on the point blowing a gale, dick head Des said it wasn't cold so I wore shorts on our walk to town and froze all the way, all he could do was laugh, he gets great pleasure out of my discomfits.  Roast chicken and vegies for tea followed by some drinks (port & stones mac) and a game of snakes & ladders, shit head won but I won playing Pass the Pig.  Believe me you need the Port or Stones Mac to warm up. Taken from the town center facing Raymond Island you can see the weather is cloudy and trust me it was bloody cold and windy. The Old Pub Paynesville was established in 1880 and is situated on The Esplanade at Paynesville. There were two pianos I spotted one in the laundry Ma

20120228 VIC Lake Enterance

20120228 Some more fly bye photos on the way to Lake Enterance. I know this doesn't look much but this bush was burnt out and with the regrowth against the black tree trunks looked quite interesting when driving through . Signs telling you to nap yet you're not allowed to park up just anywhere. Lake Entrance is situated between Bairnsdale and Orbust at a man-made channel that links Bass Strait and the Tasman Sea. I love these town on the water with there boardwalk for my daily exercise it's better than walking around traffic pollution.  I spotted heaps of trawlers, lets bet we can't get fresh prawns. There is a calm and a surf side to this town so you have the best of both.  Why is it so difficult to find some place to camp up, signs everywhere saying no camping "Bloody Hell".  Finally we found a spot on a lake, now all we have to do is hope no one kicks us out.  I made the most of it and walked around the lake snapping away and gett

20120227 Yeaaa were in Victoria and parked up on Cann River in a caravan park $10 without power.  We noticed heaps of bikes coming into Victoria and at Cann River Service Station.  We had to walk to the pub to book into the park, so we had a couple of beers when we meet had some guys returning home from Philip Island, now we know why all the bikes.  Watched Julia Gillard on the news boosting about her win over Kevin Rudd 71 to 31 (poor Ruddy baby).  Des's Bro's We put up the awning to cooked outside then it started raining and the wind picked so down comes the awning.  Theirs that sound of the Bell Birds again, do you think we could see them, not on your life but you could certainly here them.  The one good think about these parks are the nice hot shower and I can finally wash my hair. Cann River 20120228 We woke to another miserable day so we decided to take advantage of the facility's, Des moved the van and stole some free power while I did some washing, arr bo

20120226 NSW Edan

Image
20120226 Drove through Bega the town of Bega Cheese everything closed as all the small towns we pass through; I suppose there's not much to open for with such a small population.  Stopped a Yellow Pinch Dam to camp for the night but it wasn't much chop, so we drove on to Edan.  The definition of Eden is ‘delightful abode' and ‘state of supreme happiness.  Eden was occupied by the Katungal (‘sea coast people’) f or at least 6,000 years.  The area was inhabited by the Thawa tribe of the Yuin nation before white settlement.  Thawa belief that Killer Whales (“Beowas”) as they called them were reincarnated tribal warriors reborn to the sea from the Dreamtime and would not harm these mammals of the sea, calling to them with chants, water slapping and offerings of food.  Thus between man and these highly intelligent mammals a cooperative bond grew. Now our daily ritually of finding a place to camp, we drove to the beach and again there are signs saying no camping so where

20120224 NSW Moruya

Image
20120224 Moruya situated on the banks of the beautiful Moruya River, a country town in the traditional style with an easy, relaxed lifestyle far removed from the pace of city life.   The name Moruya was derived from an Indigenous Australian word, mherroyah , meaning "home of the black Swan.  The area was the traditional home of two Indigenous Australian tribes: the Wallanga and the Brinja-Yuin. This was a great spot to camp up for a couple of day, do some fishing lap up the sun and sit back and take it all in.  Des caught a fish and the big sook wouldn't touch it so I had to rescue the poor thing with the help of a fellow fisherman, the tine fish swam free, we didn't catch a thing but the fish were well feed.  We had a great day washed our cloths and frolicked in the sun along with lots of visitors coming and going keeping us entertained for the day then topping it of with a nice cold beer or three. Wheres the pegs Des?  I can't find them. (Dill) Our humble

20120223 NSW Ulladulla -Batemans Bay

Image
20120223 Ulladulla was known as Nulladulla and the harbor plays host to the largest commercial fishing fleet on the South Coast and yet you still can't buy fresh prawns, what a jock.  Some quick shopping a walk through the town then a drive to the top of the harbor to check out the Lighthouse and the scenic view at Warden Heads. Driving into Ulladulla. We've seen the same man-made Boulder's in a couple of places now they make for an interesting photo. The scenic view below the lighthouse Warden Heads Lighthouse 20120223 Batemans Bay another lovely town on the water we walked around looking for some fresh prawns but still no luck, all these little towns on the water full of fishing boats and trawlers and no fresh prawns but we did manage to buy some fresh Flat Head for me and Shark for Des, yak. Part of Batemans Bay It's getting late we need to park up soon, we drove around looking for a spot to stay, we should have st
