20190403 Emu Creek, is the birth place of Henry Lawson whose father, Neil Larson, came to Australia as a quartermaster in 1855, married in 1866, and attracted by the gold rush moved to Emu Creek, as Grenfell was once known. Henry Lawson was born in a tent on the goldfields during a severe storm in 1867, his birth prompted the family name change to Lawson an anglicised version of Larson. Due to the gold rush about 10,000 people headed to Emu Creek but due to the lack of water and health care many died, prompting the fast-growing businesses in George Street where shopkeepers served the needs of the gold mining industry and Emu Creek was proclaimed Grenfell. Grenfell is now the proud owner of the silo rural art movement, artist, Heesco Khosnaran transformed the enormous silo into a remarkable mural featuring lush green grass, grazing sheep and local birds. Love, Love, Love the silos art murals. Around 500 cans of spray-paint, five weeks and 130 litres o

20190424 Off to Cargo, Des said he read it’s an historic town he thought I’d like, well! after travelling over 40ks on the roughest road ever, we arrived to see a Pub and a shop, gee this is nice Des, NOT. Cargo was again a mining town and 1868 Alluvial gold was first discovered in Long Gully, it prompted a rush of 500 miners.  Is hard to believe Cargo was once a thriving town with three hotels a bank, three churches, two schools, many businesses and much more . We drove onto Canowindra where there were caravans everywhere, what’s going on here I thought, so I googled and found the Canowindra International Balloon Challenge is taken place, that was on the news a couple of days ago, “wow” excitement plus and this is also an historic town.   With the festival on, camp sites were booked out but we found a lovely camp spot just out of town with plenty of room, that’s suites us. 25-04-2019 Waking around 12.30am I was dammed if I could sleep and

20190416  As usual we're the last to leave the camp ground after pondering over which way to head, not taking the motorhome on dirt road certainly limits where we can go, then we found the town of Mendooran and it has a free camp ground, that sounds like us.  With not many here we had the choice where to park so we found a nice grassy area and settled in for a few days, well it's that time of  day as I pop the top of a coldie, "the best sound in the world" as Scotty would say. Built in 1926 the Mendooran Hotel is one of those grand old pubs with it's large veranda and grand fire places that takes you back in time.  Situated on a three way intersection leading to Dubbo, Gilgandra and Dunedoo this pub is a must to stop at. I take my hat off to the new owners, very friendly, great story teller and fabulous meals at very reasonably prises, well it must be, Des and I had three meals there and they were all yummy. Come along and join in the Fun Tim
