We didn't stay long in Chinchilla, we just got our supplies and left for the Round Water Hole Rest Area for the night about 10 minutes from town. We had a quite night sitting around the lake until it got too cold so we retired to the van and the warm comfort of our bed. Our next camp we decided to check out the Boondooma Homestead, just a 116klm up the road so I might as well sit back and take in the scenery. We crossed over into the South Burnett Region just after 10ish,  a peanut growing and wine-producing area on the Great Dividing Range, north of the Darling Downs, in Queensland and is within the basin of the Burnett River. Des takes the o pportunity  to feed one of the locals that waddled over expecting a treat, Des was happy to share our bread with him, then he shits right in front of the van, the duck, not Des.😏 The Boondooma Station was settled in 1846 by three young Scotsmen, the homestead was built from the 1850s to the 1870s and today the outbuildings are still in their

We pulled into this little rural town located in the Western Downs on the Brigalow Creek, and my initial thought was, yeah, it’s just another little town that popped up in the 1860’s. The town is surrounded by wheat and cattle stations and has a population of 262. Turning into the main street when I spotted the ANZAC Memorial Museum, now this I must check out. I try to make a point of sourcing information on the history of towns, only there wasn’t any for Meandarra, but after speaking to a local who has made it her goal to source the history and have it recorded.  As a formal resident of Meandarra, Mr Rod Keys had an interest in military memorabilia since he completed his conscription service obligations. Rods passion saw his collection develop over the next 29 years with his first purchase in 1976 of the Ferret Scout Car. His collections increased was housed on the family property from 1976 – 2005. But it was in 2003 the council purchased 33% of the collection when the local community

20220802 Qld Talwood to Meandarra

We camped in the truck stop last night and were up early thanks to the many trucks parked beside us, what is it that they keep their truck running while they have a nap, It must cost them a fortune in fuel. After a quick cuppa we left travelling along the Moonie Tambo Hwy that passes many farms and cattle stations along the way, but my main concern is keeping my eye out for Roos, we are never on the road this early in the morning and to make matters worse the road is thick with fog. Passing over the Joe Beach Bridge as we watch out for pot hole's and trucks coming from the other direction, we do not want to get off the road along here as there are some patches look much too wet. The cattle take advantage of the cropped Sorgan in the paddocks as they feast away in the morning fog. Well Talwood is just up the road and it's just after 8:30am and the fog is still thick. And this is the results of three days of walking back and forth every three hours carrying his little green bucke
