20150830 WA Cape Naturaliste to Margaret River

Image
20150830  Driving through Leeuwin Naturliste National Park on our way to check out the Cape Naturaliste Tower which stands on a 100 m high bluff overlooking Geographe Bay, and was constructed in 1903 and commenced operations in 1904. 1907 was an eventful year for the lightstation, the wreck of the Carnarvon Castle, which had caught fire off the south east of WA, saw the rescue of 14 seaman after weeks at sea in a lifeboat.  At least 12 ships have come to grief in the strong currents and dangerous reefs which lie off Cap Naturaliste’s sharp point. We took the easy walk the where if you are lucky you can view the migration of the humpback southern right and blue whale come close to shore from September to November.  Although you could see them, they were like tine dots in the distance, so we left. Arum Lily, these poisonous plants grow in mass proportion in the park and are classed as a pest but they look very pretty when in full bloom. We cam

20150828 WA Brusselton

20150828 Brusselton is our next stop and after a bit of a walk through the town we ended up sleeping besides a scout hall just out of town. 20150829  After some shopping we go in search of the jetty which is apparently one of the most recognized icon in Western Australia and is 1841 metres in length making it the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.  It is now only used for tourism and recreation and get this, they charge you to walk on the it.  I was so stunned I just couldn’t believe that Brusselton charged “ANYONE” to walk on a fucking jetty, now that is where I draw the line, we left, but we did return the next morning as you can walk for free up till 9am and after 5pm. I downloaded this photo only to give you a true indication of the length of this jetty. The jetty was to be only 161 metres when construction began in 1865, sand drifts resulted in an additional 131 metres being added and further extensions were added throughout the following 90 years.  After

20150825 WA Donnybrook

20150825  We stopped at Donnybrook for a hot shower which was $6 each but the young lad only charged Des for one but then we decided to stay the night, I love having power as we get to use the heater more freely. In the town stands this very cool playground and my immediate thought was how much Ashford and Hamish my grandsons would love to play in there, ge, I even wanted to go in it looked so cool. This wreck stands at the front of the police station as a reminder to slow down but in this one the airbags didn’t disperse and we think it may have been because it hit a tree from the side, well theirs nothing else to take photos of in this town. 26-08-2015  We thought it might be worth a trip to check out Ironstone Gully Falls only 18 ks out of Donnybrook and in the bush, bonus we can have a camp fire, I just LOVE my fires.  Once we arrived I  immediately  went in search of some wood and stacked up our pile ready for a fire. Sitting outside having a

20150825 WA Bunbury

20150825 Arriving at the big town of Bunbury and after veering in and out of streets we found our way to the beach front where we parked then walked to town.  While Des did some banking I went in search of Telstra to have our account adjusted, once again only I was sent on a bum steer so I returned but I did find a camera repair and as my camera is in much need of a clean I jumped at it, $200 later but worth it. The Rose Hotel with decorative cast-iron balconies dominates the corner of this street, it is celebrating her 150 years and the monument in the centre of the roundabout is named Brother & Sister who have a relaxed feeling as they look over the historic structure. We walked along Wyalup Rocky Point where basalt rock formation were deposited thousands of year ago by flowing lava and lucky for us it turned out a lovely sunny day.  ‘Back Wash’ that occurs when the swell breaks on the basalt and creates a reverse wave.  These waves allow surfers

20150823 WA Pinjarra to Harvey

20150823   Our first stop after leaving Fremantle was a small town inland a bit called Pinjarra.  Pinjarra is a small town on the banks of the Murray in which was the setting for one of the bloodiest massacres of aborigines in Western Australian history and the home of Fairbridge, a British child migration scheme housing facility, which resulted in appalling abuse of children between 1913 and 1981.   We were camped at what we thought was the old railway station but no it was still working, trust us. Walking the grounds and came upon this antique shed with many old ware’s and this one jumped out at me.  Mangle is what it is called and it was used to squeeze the water out of washed and rinsed cloths and it was much easier as a two person job, it could also be used for cold pressing of sheets, pillow cases and whatever you wanted flattened, now doesn’t that take you back in time. Then there was this Fan-Maid Automatic Clothes Drier which I’m sure di
