20150823 WA Pinjarra to Harvey

20150823  Our first stop after leaving Fremantle was a small town inland a bit called Pinjarra.  Pinjarra is a small town on the banks of the Murray in which was the setting for one of the bloodiest massacres of aborigines in Western Australian history and the home of Fairbridge, a British child migration scheme housing facility, which resulted in appalling abuse of children between 1913 and 1981.  We were camped at what we thought was the old railway station but no it was still working, trust us.

Walking the grounds and came upon this antique shed with many old ware’s and this one jumped out at me.  Mangle is what it is called and it was used to squeeze the water out of washed and rinsed cloths and it was much easier as a two person job, it could also be used for cold pressing of sheets, pillow cases and whatever you wanted flattened, now doesn’t that take you back in time.

Then there was this Fan-Maid Automatic Clothes Drier which I’m sure didn’t actually dry the cloths but did however spin the water out of the cloths.

I was a bit dubious about hopping on the old scales but I was pleasantly surprised especially after all the drinking we have done since we left home, that’s if there correct.

We decided to walk the heritage trail along the banks of the Murray River a whole 1.2 km long which ends up at the suspension bridge when we came upon this community chair which took me back to Heather and Mel’s blog and all the chair they found on their trip around Australia.

A Coffin Cheater touring on his own, that’s right he’s not allowed to ride with his friends.

24-08-2015  We stopped at Harvey where May Gibbs, Australia’s best known authors and illustrations have charmed children for generations once lived, her books have never been out of print since first released in 1918.

A Box of Water This timber box is typical of the first device used for measuring irrigation supplies.

The scene as we drive out of town looking for the dam to hopefully camp but nop we couldn’t camp there, but the rolling green hills along the way was worth the drive.

Des has been hanging out to stay on a dairy farm and milk some cows when we saw a sign for a farm stay so we thought we would check it out only they don’t take motorhomes but I did manage a quick shoot of this guy as we left.
