20250605 Pallamallawa, Moree, Collarenebri to Cumborah
20250605 We left Gravesend for a 20k drive down the road to Pallamallawa for the night and have lunch at the Pally Pub, entering the town we realised we’ve been here before. The meals were lovely and probably a little bit cheaper than some pub these days. We stopped at the bakery in Moree when a guy asked Des if he’s travelling, yes he said, I can tell said the guy it’s always the scruffy ones that get the good looking woman, well! I peed laughing, but really, Des wasn’t dressed too bad for a change. We camped at Collarenebri for the night, Oo dear, there’s a football game tomorrow and the grounds will be flooded with the locals so we’re out of here tomorrow, Bulldogs an all black team, although it would probably be a good game to watch.
The Club in the Scrub started in the mid 1970s (about 1976), after a few of the miners and their families got together in protest after a pub up the road put the price of beer up during the flood (as he had to fly the beer in) but didn't lower them when the roads cleared.
20250607 It’s busy in Collarenebri today with the football game on, there’s people coming from all directions as we head to Cumborah to camp a few day with Karan and Gary who offered to drive us into the pubs in the scrub, yay! I finally get to see them. We attempted the drive in 2023, but the road was badly corrugated and had to turn around.
I asked Des to stand there while I take a photo, can’t believe he actually did.🤷♀️
Here we are at The Club in the Scrub and loving it, time for a drink with little Hag.🥃
Check out this awesome pool table and the wood carved dragon.
THE GOLDEN YEARS
The golden years have come at last.
I cannot see, I cannot pee,
I cannot chew, I cannot screw. My memory shrinks, my hearing stinks,
No sense of smell, I look like hell !
My body's drooping› got trouble pooping.
The golden years have come at last ....
THE GOLDEN YEARS CAN KISS MY ASS!
One of the locals turn up on his buggy with his dog in toe, ya don’t get to see this in the city.
So this is how you do prospecting, good luck with that one Gary.
Cactus love this rugged landscape but it could do with a bit of a clean out, let me in there.
Ya gotta love the quirky sculptures scatted around the Pub.
On our way to the next Pub and the road is quite smooth.
One of the many rigs used for drilling the Opals.
The gravel pit created from the mine dugouts.
Here we stand at the Community War Memorial on our way to the 2nd pub in the scrub.
The ground is surrounded with ironstone rocks from the local environment with plaques from Vietnam 1962-1972, dedicated to Australians who served in South Vietnam and to the memory of those who lost their lives.
