20250513 Sandy Creek Pub, Allan

202250513 Going over Cunningham’s Gap, now to endure 9 ks of winding roads and let’s not forget the roadworks that’s been ongoing for years, one of these days we might get to see the finished product. Driving through Warwick and onto the Sandy Creek Pub for the night. A camper pulled in and asked us what the meals were like, we told her of our last experience with the dried up roast, she declined the roast dinner. We had a drink at that pub but it’s getting expensive to drink out these days so we returned home for a few more.

What is about the pies when you travel and the Aratula Pie shop is one not to pass.

Check out that fence, repairing the damaged section of the Cunningham Highway at Cunninghams Gap that suffered damage during a bush fire in 2019. This 2km stretch, leading up to the Allan Cunningham monument, about 20,000m2 of rockfall protection mesh has been installed on the upslope and over 1km of fencing at the bottom of the slope to catch falling rocks, is being installed.

From roadworks to rainbows, much more pleasant.

We arrived at the Sandy Creek Pub where there’s free camping out the back, we sit outside having a beer and watched the new campers start to roll in and chatting as they pass. The grounds inside the pub area has is covered with bird cages with many exotic birds, a lot more than when we were here the last time. I don’t like seeing birds locked in cages and sometimes I just want to snap the lock and set them free, they are so many beautiful birds.

Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao), are a large and colourful parrot native to Central and South America. They are known for their bright red, yellow, and blue plumage. Scarlet macaws are highly intelligent and social birds that form monogamous pair bonds that last for life.

Blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), also known as the blue-and-gold macaw. These birds are native to South and Central America, where they inhabit forests and woodlands.

I was really surprised to see these Black Swans locked in an in closure but apparently it’s legal as long as you have a licence.

Ring-necked Pheasants stride across open fields and weedy roadsides in the U.S. and southern Canada. Males sport iridescent copper-and-gold plumage, a red face, and a crisp white collar; their rooster-like crowing can be heard from up to a mile away.

The Gouldian finch (Chloebia gouldiae), also known as the Gould's finch or the rainbow finch, is a colourful passerine bird that is native to Australia.

There are still many more birds but I don’t want to bore you with too many so now we stroll the grounds and check out the rest of the animals.

She’s a fat pig already and obviously a good breeder.

And last but not least the humble Deer or Bam Bee, I thought these guys could just jump this fence or maybe they are just feed well.

Then we step inside the Pub for a coldie and mounted on the wall is this pig with big balls and his poor mate, definitely not a kid’s pub.

We Will Return
