20250412 Spain, Cobisato Toledo
20250412 The alarms went off at 6:30am so we jump out of bed and head to breakfast before loading onto the bus, we had a small delay as our coach Fabio wasn’t feeling well but he jumped back with flying colours. Our trip today entails the town of Toledo, known for the medieval Arab, Jewish and Christian Monuments set above the plains of Castilla-Ha Mancha in central Spain, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited! The medieval period is my favourite part of history but first the boys have a Futsal Training session in the town of Cobisa, Toledo, boys to ware Navy (dark blue) kit and polo shirt - tracksuit.
The boys are being trained by a 3rd generation Futsal club for a three hour training session.
The training was intense especially when the tennis balls came out but if you learn to kick a tennis ball you can kick any ball. The training went well, hopefully the boys got some great tips.
The boys were all excited to receive a Jersey from the Cobisa Futsal Club.
This is such a proud moment for these guys, there’s not too many boys who can say they’ve been trained by some of the best trainers.
Even our coaches were delighted with the training from the masters at the Futsal Club.
We all pile back into the bus for our trip to the ancient town of Toledo, once the capital of Spain up until 1561. After travelling up the windy road we made a photo stop in the rain then continued to the top.
I did manage a fly by photo of the Primate Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo, a Roman Catholic church which is considered one of the most impressive Gothic cathedrals in Europe, and a masterpiece of Gothic architecture in Spain. The cathedral was built between the 13th and 15th centuries, now that I would love to go through.
Toledo, is located on a rugged promontory on the right (north) bank of the Tagus River, also forms part of the Spanish-Portuguese border and continues through Portugal.
Wow! Check out that view of a city over 2,000 year old, it just blows my mind.
A video of the city and the Tagus River that runs through it.
Check this place out, who would have thought we would be standing in this spot in a city with a history that’s hundreds of years older than Australia, it’s just breathtaking.
I just love old bridges and this one in particular dates back to the late 14th century.
Equestrian Statue of Alfonso VI, located in Toledo, Spain and he was known as "the Brave", was the King of León, Galicia, and Castile in the 11th century.
After a quick dash from the bus and the rain we head up the escalator to reach the top of Toledo.
Once we reach the top our first priority was to find somewhere to eat, we are all starving. Walking through the streets and up through the alleys and adventurually found a nice cafe and settled in for a good feed.
We are loving the Spanish food, or maybe we were just so hungry we could eat the horse and chase the jockey.
I so wish we had more time to explore this amazing town.
I walked into a gift shop looking for a hat pin and this beautiful lady was kind enough to let me take a photo of her, she looked just like an Egyptian goddess. She told me she moved to Toledo over 4 years ago and just loves it.
The town centre in Toledo.
The sculpture of Saint George slaying a dragon, which is a common depiction of the saint, it’s often portrayed as a knight on horseback, defeating a dragon, which symbolises evil.
This statue depicts Federico Martín Bahamontes, a celebrated Spanish cyclist known as the "Eagle of Toledo". He won the 1959 Tour de France and was renowned for his climbing abilities. The sculpture is located in Toledo, Spain, his hometown. He passed away on August 8, 2023
A view of the wall surrounding the town, it’s just another wall Grandma, said Hamish, but he doesn’t have any concept of just how old these wall are.
Love Toledo
