20240711 Qld Lake Victoria

20240711 After our 3k dirt road in we were pleasantly surprised and happy we decided to check it out, the Lake has plenty of water and apparently in the hot season many locals camp, fish and ski here. There are many spots to camp but some are only accessible by 4WD plus there are no facilities so it self contained vehicles only and you have to remove your own rubbish but the peace and tranquility is worth it.

Our first day here and we got bom barded by a family with three girl who parked beside us, we all know how much children can scream when playing but these little cherub were well behaved, but then girls can be a bit more placid than boys, sometimes. Once’s they set up Des and watched in ore as Andrew went in search of wood, Jesus this guy must have muscles on top of muscles, we couldn’t believe the size of the tree trunks he carried out of the bush, we have superman camping beside us. Well they are definitely not Queenslander, who gets around in shorts and singlets  in this weather even Mum and the girls were wearing shorts, maybe Des and I are just getting soft in our old age.

Andrew and his wife Sonia with their three very cute girls, they had fun painting this old tree trunk and riding their bikes around the camps.

It was nice to see the girls exploring outdoors and using their imagination when, with the help of their Dad they built this cubby house and they even had their own fire happening, well done girls.

Later in the night and once all the girls had retired to bed Dad, (Andrew) would call in for a few ales while we sat around the fire listening to our music and talked about what ever popped into our heads. I’m thinking this lad from Parks likes a few ales so he fitted in well with Des and I. It’s always nice to meet new traveler's, especially the ones that don’t speak bull shit.
We learnt a new way to build a fire and make it last without using too much wood, just throw a large log on your fire and surround it with small sticks and she last all night, but we need someone like Andrew to fetch the logs for us.

20240713 Andrew and Sonia pack up to leave for their holiday destination in Yeppoon, we had a lovely time getting to know the family from the Elvis town of Parks, you never know we might just turn up on their door step one day and surprise them. Every year Parks holds the Elvis Festival to celebration the life of the King, Elvis Presley's and it just happens to coincide with the Kings birthday in January. This is a must to see and its been on my bucket list to attend but unfortunately Des doesn’t travel in the summer month's so I will have to make a special trip with some other keen Elvis fans.

Des and I walk the grounds checking out more camp spot but it was definitely 4WD access only.

This tree is snapped in half and now hangs in a very precarious way.

Time stands still in the bush, it’s 4 o’clock  somewhere.
We found this 44 gal drum as we wondered around the grounds and for the life of me I have no idea what FUFP means but it sounds like a sware word, someone certainly went to a lot of bother creating it.

20240714 We left Lake Victoria after three days of bliss just watching the pelicans swim up and down the Lake in search of a feed and judging from the amount of pelicans I’m assuming there’s plenty. We did however see lots of fish jumping and I was told yellow belly and catfish are what lurks beneath these waters. Andrew told us a story of when he witnessed a Pelican swoop down and stole a new born lamb with the biblical cord still attached. Apparently they have a hook on the front of their beak that they hooks around the cord and carries the baby lamb off to feast on before the mother has a chance to respond, see you learn something new every day and I’m thinking these pelicans didn’t last long after with a bullet at their head.
