20240706 Qld Bundoora Dam to Middlemount
20240706 We just passed another mine, German Creek Mine where just down the road is the Bundoora Dam where we did intend to camp for a few day but it’s closed for some reason but that didn’t stop us, we just camped in front of the gate like a couple of hippies protesting.
There was no issue with wood so we sat back with our beers and enjoyed our peaceful surroundings.
We went for a walk to check out the dam and came across this muddy creek that would normally be great for yabbies but we spotted a water rat so we’re guessing there’s no yabbies.
What a load of bull shit, there’s no algae in this dam
Middlemount Queensland is only 44 year old and it was purposely built as a coal mining town in the early 1980s, which in the early years served as a dormitory settlement servicing the German Creek open cut coal mine. Middlemount, which is often nicknamed the ‘Giant Peanut‘ due to the road layout.
Titled 'We Made Our Own Fun' The mural is about celebrating the simple things in life, what it is like growing up in a small town and having to make your own fun.
It is also a commemorative tribute to the Grasstree Mine and its subsequent shutdown
Blue Mountain Park is often referred to as Middlemount’s "Jewel in the Crown"! It is a picturesque setting that provides visitors with a perfect place to have a family barbecue while enjoying the panoramic views of the surrounding areas.
The Blue Mountain Park is the only location in Isaac where you can stop and view a working coal mine.
I know it’s a weed but a very pretty one I thought, Mexican Prickly Poppy, well that’s according to Google.
These murals cover the wall as you enter the small shopping centre in Middlemount, I love my murals and just find the thought that goes into creating these arts so impressive.
Middlemount Mine, I couldn’t think of anything worse than working underground in a mine, certainly not for me but I would love to see it nevertheless.
So this is our camp for the night, we parked on the LHS of the building on the bitumen beside a picnic table, now that’s service for ya. The course is situated where it’s limited water, the fairways are perfect and the greens are extremely fast, apparently, so it’s suppose to be one of the best courses in the Central Highlands and it accommodates campers for free.
20240709 Well I was actually impressed with the town of Middlemount, for such a young town it has more to offer than we thought but all good things come to an end as we pack up and leave the last of the mining towns, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of these town.
This is what we woke to this morning, just as well we’re in no hurry to leave.
Impressive Mining Towns Trip
