20240603 Qld Millmerran to Dalby

20240603 Once the fog cleared we left Yelarbon for Millmerran, turning left just after Inglewood on the Millmerran Inglewood Road passing Canning Creek, we’ve travelled on this road many times, it’s a relatively smooth road with a couple of rough patches and it looks like they’ve had a bit of rain but it’s still dry. We just spotted a mine 7ks from Millmerran, I don’t recall ever seeing that before so I looked it up.

The Commodore Mine is the power station's sole source of coal fuel supply, the BUMA team have been providing a total mine service to Millmerran Power Partners since September 2001, delivering typically 3.6 million tonnes of raw coal per year to the power station.

We spent the night on a bitumen surface right in front of the painted silo/water tank in Millmerran, Des put one pot in the creek then we sat outside in the cold having a few beers until it got too cold.

20240604 The temperature dropped overnight to 5 degrees so it was a bit chilly in the van, we opted to head to town and get a dirty old pie but first Des needs to check his pot, only three small yabbies so they got to survive. After we pigged out on our pies and I pinched a bunch of lavender so I can make a tincture we left Millmerran for the umpteen time heading along the Millmerran Cecil Plans Road. The fields a full with cotton growing, you can always tell when harvest has begun by the bits of cotton along the edge of the road. Our plan is to stop for lunch in Cecil Plans but I’m still full from our pie but we did check out the menu and decided to head straight to Dalby travelling along the Dalby-Celcil Plains Rd. We just crossed over the Condamine River and Des is drooling over the river thinking how many yabbies he’s missing out on.

As we itch closer to Dalby that familiar site of the cotton bales stand out in their many colours ready for exporting.

The scene changes from cotton to Sorgham as we get closer to Dalby.

We thought this is an awfully long trailer for a small car.

We arrived at Sue and Richard’s home and take over the driveway, as we do, now to wait for Richard to turn up so we relax in the van. Here’s our boy all full of smiles as we greet each other on the steps of the van, It’s such a pleasure to see Richard, he’s always full of information and knowledge of the area and is happy to drive me around showing me the new sites in the area.

Sue and I sit up drinking, well I did.
Come on Richard let me take a photo of you with the old fart, No way.

Every time we visit the McNeil’s in Dalby we stop and buy a roast and make Sue slave away in the kitchen preparing a most scrumptious dinner, Sue is the best cook ever, hence why we  return whenever we head this way, and let’s not forget the company, we always look forward to the many laughs we have thanks to Richard.

It is usually referred to as Pleco because of the superstition that if you spell it fully or correctly your fish will soon die, that sounds a bit silly🤔

Some of Richard’s collection, Ghost Night and Plexiglass Fish, very different.

The next time we visit Richard’s said he will take me to see Jimbour House, an historical property near Dalby on the Darling Downs, I will definitely keep you to that one.

Until Our Next Visit
