20230611 Qld Wingadee RA:53ks Rest Area

After a great time at the rodeo it’s time to move on as we pack up and head towards Walgett just  a 115km’s down the road, then Des noticed a race track just out of town which seems like a good place to watch his fan, we turned around and sure enough there’s everything he needs, thank god that’s done, at least until the next downpour of rain hits. On the road again travelling along Castlereagh Highway when I say a rest stop just 50km down the road, Des was keen to keep going but it’s getting late, well about 2 ish but that’s late enough so we camped at Wingate RA:53ks Rest Area.

We take over the rest area with a mural of the local birds.

This Emu roaming the camp ground picking up god knows what.

This Willie Wag Tail happerly hops around me keeps me company while Des cooks dinner.

20230612 The rains heading our way again so we stayed put on our solid grounds, there’s not a thing to do because we’re in the middle of no where with the only people you see are the odd campers stopping for the same reason as us, to see out the rain.

Des doesn’t take many photos but he topped it when he captured this cloud as it came rolling in over our camp while strolling the grounds.

20230613 With the sky all clear we pack up a left for Walgett, hopefully we should make it this time, if not for anything else but to have a shower. We passed a murky looking creek that looked like there could be yabbies but unfortunately it a narrow dirt road that the van won’t down. WE made into Walgett Roadhouse and had our shower and brought some junk food then left heading towards Lightning Ridge on B55, Castlereagh Highway. There were a few creeks along the way but non we could assess, poor Des really needs his yabbie fix, so far he’s only caught a hand full this whole trip and it’s just not good enough.

A fly by photo of a stick man carrying a bail of hay, I’m thinking it belongs to the Fairlands Station.

This image of musician Jimmy Little is about 25metres high and covers one wall of a large grain silo.

The artwork, which features an Aboriginal storyline representing the river system throughWalgett, aims to promote inclusivity and harmony in the community, and John Murray’s emu character are dressed up to represent diverse groups of people across the district.

Where Next I Do Not Know
