20230429 SA Port Donnell’s Rock Lobster to Feast Classic Muserm

After exploring the streets of Port McDonnell and taking in all its surroundings and Des has his supplies it’s now time to get serious and go in search of that famous Rock Lobster,

Port MacDonnell is home to the largest Southern Rock Lobster fleet in Australia so we head to the Five Star Seafood shop to check them out, @ $70 a kilo he brought not just one but two, he was determined not to miss out this time like he did in Tassie, lobster’s on the menu tonight.😋

The view from our van tonight.

Check out that thick white meat and OMG it taste devine.
Ooo yes, he’s definitely in his element, bloody guts.

The rugged coast line in South Australia, absolutely beautiful.

The sea has been at a fairly constant level for the past 6,000 years, during this time it eroded
parts of ancient coastline ridges and developed the bays, cliffs, sea stacks, arches, offshore reefs
and wavecut platforms.

The first lighthouse was approved in 1856 and completed in July 1857 at a cost of £1837. It was built on an extremely exposed part of the coast, with cliffs falling a hundred feet to the sea on either side of the narrow piece of land on which it was built. It was necessary later to erect a stone wall around the buildings to make it safer for the keepers of the lighthouse.

Sunset over the cliff where the first lighthouse first stood.

So here we were camped up on an historical site where once stood an Old Lighthouse, while standing outside hiding behind the van away from the wind in the freezing cold while watching the sun go down. Pacing as he does Des stepped out from behind the motor home but quickly jumps back, shit that’s freezing he said, now most people would rug up but no, not Mr Cathcart, but me, I was as warm as toast in my many layers.

20230430 It so nice waking to the waves hitting the shore at the tip of the southernmost town in South Australia but it’s time to move on and explore more of the Cape.

This Site was chosen to construct a tower to commemorate the bicentenary of the sighting of Cape Northumberland, Cape Banks, government Mount Schank and Mount Gambier by Lieutenant James Grant on the 3 December 1800 aboard The Lady Nelson.

There’s another camp up the road a bit so off we go to check it our when I found Dickie Knee lurking in the bush, he’s getting a bit long in the tooth our Duckie Knee.😄

We decided we will never be back again and these lobsters were cooked to perfection so I splurged out and brought another for the road. I left Des to clean her while I go for a coffee, I know how to get out of work.😏

“The Feast’s Classic Car & Memorabilia Museum“
On Wiki I found what looks like an interesting place to visit and after asking a local she said it’s definitely worth a look, but you will need a couple of hours so we head just out of town to check it out. We meet Donald a real character in his own way but unfortunately he’s very strict on no photos allowed to be taken inside thanks to bloody thieves casing the place. One of Donald stores was he made his living Cray Fishing in the early days, he has photos of whales washed up on rocks while being devoured by shark's and in those days Cray’s were plentiful and he made a good income. I asked him if he had any children and he replied with, a couple that I was blamed for, sounds just like you Des.😏

The mural as you drive up to the gate of entry.

The fence in lined with memorabilia of old and new signs and large animals overlooking the site.

Just entering the site is mind blowing and we haven’t even stepped inside the shed.

One of Donald’s creations that we were aloud to sit on and take photo’s.

I can just see myself riding this down the street.

Stand at one end and walk the mural and watch the cars follow you, now check the blue car in the photo below it truly is exciting.

See it really does works.

The painting of the man in yellow is actually Donald and once again if you walk the mural he follows you watching your every move.

It was in April 1992 that the first Legends Car was unveiled at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The concept of creating a fun and affordable "spec" class of racing for anyone to participate in. Legend Cars are 5/8-scale fiberglass full-fendered versions of the famed NASCAR modifieds driven by legendary drivers.

It was in 1948, a motorbike with manual control and with the help of his paralysed cousin was created as transport due to the number of former disabled servicemen in the Second World War. The British Ministry of Pensions distributed Invacars free to disabled people from 1948 until the 1970s.

Taking a step back in time in this horse drawn Baker’s cart and Donald is the proud owner of this relic.

Thank you Donald for your humorous wit and sharing your knowledge on all your collection, but you don’t need to follow me around I would never steel from you.
