20230421 Vic Horsham, Cavendish to Wannon River
With Dimboola now behind us we set off for a new adventure and perhaps find another small town with as much excitement, but somehow I don’t think so, but every town has its own bit of buzz to offer that travellers passing through. We visited Horsham in 2018 so we are only stopping for supplies and to check out the new Silo Art in town.
We found a new Mural.
Yangga Dyata - Walking on Country
Yangga Dyata (pronounced: Yanga Jarta) - Walking on Country art work celebrates the life and story of Wotjobaluk warrior -Yanggendyinanyuk, (Yang-gen-jin-a-nyook). His name means his walking feet', in Wergaia language.
World renowned street artist 'Smug' was
commissioned to transform Horsham's
silo with the image of Yanggendyinanyuk, his totem, the Black Cockatoo.
Des dropped in a yabbie pot then wondered the ground while I grabbed a beer and watched a couple of animals frolicking in the water, at first I thought it was a couple of Platypus then Des returned saying he was just speaking to a camper who said he say Platypus in the river. The next morning Des pulled his pot only to find three dead rat, well so much for the Platypus.
Cherry pool campground is situated along the Glenelg River just off the highway.
We had a chat with some campers who just pulled up with 17 other vans looking for a camp spot for a couple of days, they were quite pleased when we told them we were leaving, look out for the water rats though.
Following the Grampians as we traveled along the Henty highway heading to Cavendish to check out a new camp.
Within the Grampians region there’s are many hidden towns in which most were formed by our European settlers during the early 1900s. One of those towns is Cavendish, which was settled during the 1850’s. Today Cavendish is a well-developed community with a population of around 500 residents.
Nigretta Falls flows into a pool at its base before continuing down street to Wannon Falls some 10 kilometres downstream. There’s no camping here so we moved onto Wannon Falls to camp the night.
This narrow road surrounded by tree leads to the Wannon Falls.
The falls were created by basalt lava flow that surged up stream to the Wannon River.
There he goes again, Mr Pedantic off to clean his feet, I swear he cleans his feet more than he changes his undies, but he still insists on wearing thongs.😟
We had a nice evening sitting around the fire while having a few drink but we so want to find that nice creek to park up for a week or so, it will happen I’m sure.
