20230405 NSW Mullaley, Coonabarabran, Tooraweenah to Narromine

20230405 Mullaley is a village on the Oxley Highway just west of Gunnedah who’s main produce of the region’s best crops including wheat, grain, lambs and beef cattle and it sits at the junction of the Black Stump Way and Oxley Highway.

We stopped for lunch and meet a lovely young couple who were drooling over our van and how they would really love something like that one-day, see you on the road soon I yelled as we left.

We passed many properties along the way and so far it looks like Sorgen is the main crop grower around these parts of NSW at this time.

20230405 Entering Coonabarabran which is known as both the 'Gateway to the Warrumbungles' and the 'Astronomy Capital of Australia', it’s a very clean and tidy town with much appeal and heritage but we’ve been hear and I’ve said enough already, maybe it’s time you checked it out for yourself.

The Clock Tower stands in the Main Street as you enter the town.

Desires new gossip seat.
This is the place for People like you,
You’ll hear stories day and night,
Of who the Police picked up,
 Or who had a fight.

Cruising along the Newell Highway checking out the scenery while trying to stay clear out of the many trucks flying up behind us and praying for an overtaking lane not to far away. There are some steep parts but the old girl managed to make it up and over without creating many delays.

Our camp for the night, although I don’t know how much sleep we’ll get with the continuous passing of heavy rigs, so I’m thinking we should have a few drinks and knock ourselves out, as if we wouldn’t.

Standing on the edge of our camp is this Virtual Solar system display, one of many scatted throughout NSW and it makes for some interesting reading. Did you know Uranus has 27 moons.

The map display’s the locations of all The World’s Largest Virtual Solar System Drive, an idea generated by Coonabarabran astronomer John Shobbrook in 1997. The aim was to provide an opportunity for tourists and students to experience first hand the vastness of our Solar System and develop an interest in astronomy and science.

Onto Narromine the town who promotes itself as the 'Town of Champions' because of the large number of international sports stars who have grown up in the town including sprinter Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, cricketer Glenn McGrath and footballer David Gillespie.

Glen McGrath RH Fast bowler 1993–2007 He grew up in Narromine where his cricketing career began in 1977 at the age of seven.
