20220706 Qld Muckadilla to Helidon
20220706 What’s a nice surprise, the pub that burnt down in 2019 has finally been rebuilt and what they built was not what I expected from a quite town of only around 58 people. I was here in 2019 and took photos of the burnt out pub. Although it’s been modernised it was modernised with a real country charm with an added class, definitely a few notched above Morven, which is still a good pub.
20220707 We have decided to head home to get a few things organised before heading off again soon so we leave for Roma for a quick stop (get my nails done) and supplies the onto Wallumbilla Showgrounds to wash this bloody van, but at least we have power.
Des recons definitely the Bench of Bullshit for me, but we all know who this seat really belongs to, don’t we Scotty.
I found an aerial shot of the burnt out Macca Hotel from 2019, it was destroyed in a matter of minutes when wind blew flames from a fire next door into the pub's air conditioning duct, the community cried as they watched on.
Jesus I’d cry to if it was the only Pub for bloody miles, ha Scotty.
Wow, what an improvement, we stayed in the camp ground up the road and the town was nothing, it blow’s my mind the difference a little country pub can make not just to the community but to a weary traveller, watch this town come alive now.
What better than corrugation to takes on that real country atmosphere.
I fund the finishing touch with memorabilia commemorating our Anzac men and woman a refreshing finish.
Many young men from rural areas of Australia volunteered for the Light Horse regiments. They had to pass a riding test to join. The test was easier for men from the bush because horses were still the main method of transport on farms and in country towns.
He went from one person to another putting his paw on you and all he wanted was a back scratch, he was very cute.
Des came out to me all excited, ha Lee, come and check out the men’s toilets as he peed while telling me all about it, it’s pretty sad when he gets that excited over the mens loo, but I must admit it was impressive, even the hand basin is part of a keg.
So I just had to check out the ladies loo and although there were no kegs it was elegantly done.
This verse tickled my fancy on the wall with many more to entertain you when doing your business.
20220708 It’s going to be a big trip today as Des wants to get over the Toowoomba Rang so we were up and on the road before 9am, well that’s early for me. We arrived in a little town called Helidon, it’s just one of those forgotten towns off the highway but has a pub with good meals and a little grocery shop across the corner for Des to find a bargain, he went back and forth three times and came back with arm full each time, he sure loves a bargain our Des.
Our camp spot for the night opposite the Criterion Hotel and she’s cooking roast pork with creamy cauliflower and fresh veggies, yum, Desie’s shout. OMG what an awesome meal and we got desert and all for $20.
Des returns from shopping with a chick hanging off his van, ha babe, I’m free if you are, God No! One of you is hard enough.
