20220718 Qld Maryvale, Karara to Millmerran

20220718 We were home for a week just to get some repairs completed, cook and freeze some dinners and catch up with family and friends but now the big decision is where to go next, but it really doesn’t matter. We left around 2ish heading towards Warwick and after getting through that dreaded school traffic we take the Ipswich motorway that leads you onto the Cunningham Highway but as it’s getting late, we turned off to camp at the Maryvale Hotel were there’s free camping but unfortunately the pub is closed Monday and Tuesday.

This is what I would call a spunky looking rig and it’s only use as a show truck.

I love the painting of Marilyn Munro displayed on the trucks cabin but really, tattoos on Marilyn, I don’t think so.
The tanker adds that finishing touch to this spunky unit.

I wondered to the park and found the trees covered in colourful knitted and crocheted items that sure brightens up the park, apparently it has something to do with the festival that’s on in Warwick.

20220719 This pub is closed a couple of day a week and I assume it’s because its bloody freezing, but it's more the wind that goes right through you that's the killer. Up we go over the Great Dividing Range and it's a slow trip as we climbing this mountain range. Des is struggling with where to go because we have been everywhere man, so after checking the camp book we head to the little town of Karara that’s tucked away just off the Cunningham Highway on Canal Creek with a population of just 123 residents.

Someone isn't keen on a Woman's Prison.

We camped at the Recreation Area situated on Canal Creek then go in search of wood for tonight’s dinner.

I keep finding dead butterflies on my travels, what does that even mean.

Des, ha what's your name, just call me Bill, as we struggled trying to pronouncing his real name, he's from Germany and makes German Sausages, he's a bit of character as we sit around the fire laughing at his antic.

The Karara Hotel/ General Store and Post Office.

20220719 We spent a few day locked away in the motorhome trying to stay out of the cold wind but now the rain is heading our way so we packed up and left looking for a caravan park until the rain clears only there isn't any around so we take off for Millmerran, but at $45 per night we sure arn't staying there.

The cotton is cut and ready to be transported.

Cotton bales wrapped in yellow plastic line the grounds after picking season.

Grain sorghum is more drought tolerant than either corn or soybean, making it a viable option for fields that are prone to drought.

The silos a full and the trucks are lining up to transport the Sorgham for its next stage in processing.

It seems some of the locals arn't happy the new rail upgrade.

The old mills still stands as a reminder of our past as we take the bumppy road into Millmerran.
