20220616 Qld Rollestone to Emerald

20220616 Travelling Along the Great Inland Way on A7 until we reached Rolleston that’s situated on the Comet River.  We had lunch at the pub and as we’ve been here before we left to meet up with Wendy and her mates from Stradie. We arrived at our meeting place but there was no Wendy plus I couldn’t reach her by phone, all that could mean is, she’s out of range. Well we’re not staying here so we head towards Springsure hopping to see them along the way. Next the phone rang and the mystery of their ware about’s was solved, we are just out of Springsure at Virgin Rock and hurry up, I’m fighting off camper for your spot.  Spingsure is a rural service centre nestled below the Capricorn Highlands and the area is rich in black clay soil which produces crops of sunflowers, sorghum, wheat and chickpeas and let’s not forget the cattle also play a huge part in this are.

After being introduced to Vince who is 81 and George his brother who are heading to Winton on there last trip we settle in for a few drinks.  Vince loved his music and had his karaoke machine blasting, at least until George told him to turn it down, that’s brothers for ya.

With the music pumping Vince and Wendy take to the dirt for a quick boogie, but at 81 the dance is short lived before Vince retires to the comfort of his chair.

Des hits the road on a electric scooter and at only 15km an hour I think he’s pretty safe.

Virgin Rock free camp sits at the base of Mount Zamia, of which Virgin Rock is the most prominent feature but the funny thing about it is, the camp backs onto a rehabilitation centre for Prisoners.

20220617 This is a sad day as we have decided to take a different route to the others and leave our travel mate Wendy, it’s been great having her tag along even though she thrashed me in every game but I will definitely miss her.  We head to Emerald to catch up on washing and stayed in the caravan park, well for $8 why wouldn’t you.

The park comes alive at 5:30 every afternoon with live entertainment and a huge fire Pitt so we grab our food and take advantage of the camp kitchen.  The local football teams arrived with meat trays to raffle of and there’s a Pizza Van that does a Roaring trade from all the campers and the place was packed.

20220618 We head into town for supplies and fuels then head towards Sapphire and hopefully find a quite bush camp along the way.

I noticed this mural down an alley as we drove through the town so while Des filled up on fuel I made a mad dash for some photos.
