20210803 Qld Tambo, Augathella to Morven

20210803 We decided to stay a night in Tambo after being told of Ben's Chicken Racing at the Royal Carrangarra Hotel, now that we have to see. At 5pm every afternoon Ben the chook man prepares his girls for the race of the day but first the ladies need to be actioned off so after providing a summary of the girls name and racing form the bids are started at $5 and rising. If you win the bid you are the proud owner of a coloured chicken for the duration of the race, all money raised goes to the Royal Flying Doctors.

How hilarious, watching eight chickens all wearing there colors racing around the pen while chasing a remote truck with a bucket of chicken feed to entice them on.

Ha Good looking, how about a scan before a beer and a chicken race followed by dinner with some laughs.

We had a fun afternoon watching Ben's chicken race while the guest get excited over winning the bid, one couple bid on every chook, starting at $5, she even set up syndicate with a couple in the crowd at $50 each and just when they thought they won another bid went up for $120, well the crowd burst into laughter.

20210804 We arrived in Augathella, town of Smiley, were in 1957 a British-American comedy film was released about a young Australian boy who is determined to buy a bicycle for, four pounds but gets into many misadventures along the way. We camped down at the Warrego River in our old spot but this time the water level in the river is so low you can walk were once the river flowed.

Diggers Rodeo Grounds and camp with showers and power, that's us for the next few days as we pack up and drive a K up the road, all that's missing is the Rodeo.

To fill in my days I walk the grounds looking for stock photos to add to my collection.

A Rosella enjoying the simple things in life, freedom.

There are many items around the grounds to take photo's of and this burnt out remains of a fence post is one of many.

20210807 Our last night in a town where over 80 years of rodeo story's has been at the heart of the Augathella community, but tonight we create new story's with camper's from far and wide.  After collecting our wood we gather around our fire with our chairs, drinks and an ear to listen to the many tales of everyone's travel and OMG, did we laugh. There was Julie from Tassie who spent the Tassie winters in Queensland and Mick & Brender who were part of the grey nomads gangs and added to the many laughs over night away. Julie said she hasn't laughed that much in years, so at least we made her night.

The face of cattle country.

20210809 We are now travelling over old grounds passing many towns and not stopping to see what we've already seen but stopping at Morven for the night.

Known as the town without a pub that burnt down in 2016, but thanks to eight local families who together brought the land and liquor licence and built the new hotel.

Morven is no longer the town without a pub since the Sadleir's Waterhole opened in 2020 adding a smile to the locals and traveler's passing through.

UNTIL NEXT TIME
