20210712 Qld Richmond

20210712 Kronosaurus Korner was the first sign we saw as we enter the town of Richmond and I had no idea what it meant, until I walked the town taken in the history. In ancient  times the inland sea stretched from north coast of Queensland through the heart of the west and central west of the state which once lived giant sea creatures and Kronosaurus Korner claims to be the best marine fossil museum in Australia.

Kronosaurus Korner is a museum of carnivorous creatures that walked our earth over 110 million years ago, at the time I wasn't interested in going in to check it out for $25, but after reading about it I'm kicking myself.

The main street of Richmond and one thing we've noticed about these towns are their shops are scatted all over the place, so you certainly get to see the town.

A monument to some Mayor for his dedication and commitment to Richmond, I just liked the craft in it.

The Federal Palace Hotel is thought to be built around 1903 as there are no records prior to this time. It was completely destroyed by fire in 1924 apart from a detached room at the back which was separate from the main bar where travelling salesmen used to give samples of goods to potential customers. The Sample Room turned into a temporary bar.  It was rebuilt and altered over the years so that the hotel remains much the same. A local identity remembers outback rodeos held on the hotel grounds during the 1930s and 1940s.

Minmi Replica

A nice finishing touch to a town with a huge history.
