20210709 Qld Prairie

20210709 We passed into Outback Queensland on our way to Prairie, the town who's history goes back to the Cobb and Co days when the old Aussie hotel played a huge part in providing food and accommodation for the weary taveller. The name Prairie would seem to be derived from the 'prairie-like' setting. We passed Wendy who stopped to check out White Mountain lookout but Des drives on, that's our Des.

The sign say's it all.

The hotel was built in 1860 as a horse-changing point for the Cobb & Co, hence the rails to hitch your horse to.

Take a steep back in time and wonder around the exterior of the hotel and take in the old wares, saddles and memorabilia lined up on the wooden post.

I reacon this one's a tad top heavy, lets see if she bits now.😅😂

The interia of the old pub displays a range of relics ranging from ringers' hats of long ago.

Back in the 70’s part of Twisties advertising was a knitted jumper. Instructions of how to knit it at home were on a paper pad you tore of a slip, that was held by string & displayed where Twisties were sold.
Retro coin operated kids horse ride, I remember it well.

Wendy sitting with all her friends, she doesn't say much.

Yep, tit mans at it again, he's such a dreamer.

Take a stroll around the grounds and check out the clasic machinery that dates back to the 1900's, when men worked the land using hand made tools and woman worked their fingers to the bone slaving over a hot wood stove, that's if you were reach enough to own one.

Patented in the US 1912, it goes with the old relic sitting on it.😂😅

Wow, it's hard to imagin a piece of machinery like this in it's day, they were certainly made to last, I'm thinking 1900's.

Each day we get a visit from our neighbour the Water Buffalo waiting for a treat.

Our bush shower, the water is heated from a hose laying on the ground, but don't be any more than 3 minutes or you will freeze your tits off, trust me I know.

Sexy Mumma, remember you only have 3 minutes.
One of the largest windmill's was produced in Australia was 35ft (10.7 metre's) Comet Windmill made by ‘Sidney Williams & Co’ and only fifteen of them seem to have been produced. The first six were made in Rockhampton from 1915 to 1922, and the others were made in Sydney from 1924 to 1943.

Relic's in the outback adding that rustic look to the town in Prairie

The road leading to the stations in the outback.

The things you find in a little old town like Prairie.

20210711 After our walk of the town while snapping our tresured shoots and managing to avoid dogs trying to show who's boss as Des craps himself, we arrived home in one piece. Now to get ready for dinner at the pub with friends of Wendy's who are passing through so I decided to brave the shower in the man made shake out the back, I have a feeling this is going to be awfully cold.

Bloody Wendy's at it again as I step out of the shower, hair dripping and a bit chilly but it wasn't too bad.😬

Brandon, Katrina and kids turn up as Wendy and I were playing each other in pool and what a game it was as we thrashed it out to the end and drew a tie, great game Hag.

There is no menu, you have no choose, you get what you're given and the Prise of the meal is a secret till the end. There's only room for  21 as we are seated in the dinning room to await our surprise meal.
Crumbed Steak, chips and salad and I must say the steak just mented in you mouth.
Time to pay and head back to the van for a few more drinks, the meal might be great but their alchole is expensive.
Thanks for the laughs Brendon and Katrina it was lovely meeting you all.
The dining room has a vintage chandelier, just beautiful but I recon Leanne Ledger would love to pull this one apart to make her bead curtains.
Wendy, we forgot to sign the wall, arr well we will just have to return.

You must all remember the Hill's Hoist, developed in Adelaide, by World War II veteran Lance Hill in 1945. As the story goes, Hill got home from the war and realized his backyard was getting crowded, so he designed and built a rotary clothesline from some old pipe.

A BIGGIE BUT A GOODIE
