20210721 Qld Dajarra to Mick Wright Bridge

20210721 It's hard to beleave that Dajarra was once the largest cattle trucking depot in the world, processing thousands of cattle from as far away as Western Australia. Now this quite town struggles to stay alive with a history to be proud of. Drovers once tracked more cattle than Texas in America to be loaded on the train at Dajarra, until the road trains were introduces in 1952, turning the railway into a memory. Marion Downs, a station south of Boulia, loaded 4607 cattle onto road trains that delivered them in record time, and with gains in weight, and in time compared to the old droving system, 140 miles was made in 10 hours replacing a five week trip by drovers, given a new meaning to:

 "Without Road Trains Australia Stops".

Another of those fun country Pubs.

There may not be much in this town but they have all they need, a Hospital, School and most important a Hotel.

The town has a population of just 191 and from what we saw most were indigenous.

Dajarra is home to Aboriginal people of many different tribes and the old culture is kept alive with the Aboriginal language being taught at the school by a couple of elders.

Dajarra State School have 19 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and is 93% Indigenous with 67% of students coming from a language background other than English.

Right opposite the School is the Dajarra Hotel, ha Kerry that's what we needed instead of rushing  to leave the pub to pick up our kids, they could come to us, magic.

In 2014 the Hotel notched up 80 years of serving alcohol and being the central gathering for the community.

Dajarra Post Office and Museum, an interesting part of the town that certainly captures the eye.

Ok Bruce, lets just see how good you are, what is it and what did it once do.😕

Well it's one way to turn discarded items to use and save from land fill not to speak of adding some interesting art to the town.
It's great to see the town put there creative side to use, love it.
The town has a small general store that supplies fuel, fast food an old chap to chat to and some interesting photos.

Turn over in the mine, now that's not good.

Wow! I wouldn't like to be that driver.

Boulia here we come.

Yep, this is us for the next 148 ks, nothing, nothing and more nothing.

We saw this spot near the Mick Wright Bridge and we are over driving so we stopped for the night.

See, it not all just one lane roads and wide open space that look like its leading to no where.

Check this out, Des can even throw some yabbie pots in to keep him busy.

What more could you ask for, a fire, one lot of neighbours across the way, no traffic to fight your way through, not one traffic light, a nice cold ale and the stars, bloody awesome.

Sunset in the outback

MAGIC
