20210615 Qld Hay Point

20210615 Des was driving along when he noticed the sign to Hay Point so he took a quick right to check out one of the largest coal-loading facilities in the world. It began operating in 1971 with a single coal loading berth and added a second berth in 1975, it is owned and operated by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance, a joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi. The terminal completed stage three expansion in 2015, and now has an annual coal export capacity of 55 million tonnes.

Here I am standing in front of largest coal-loading facilities in the world and it's right in our own back yard.

This is just a small part of the facilities, this place is massive, check out the amount of ships at the top of the photo waiting to be loaded.

A 1.5 km wharf was built, and the first coal was loaded from it in 1971.

Bucket wheel reclaimers are the ideal means of handling and moving large amounts of bulk materials in the shortest possible time.

I managed a pic of this butterfly just as it was about to take off.

The facility handles up to 10 trains per day each delivering up to 10,000 tonnes of coal.

Leaving Hay Point and back into the heart of the sugar cain and just in time to see it being cut.

We camped at the Leap Hotel and trust me never again, the grounds are well kept but the traffic noice was horrendous, so we were up early to head to Proserpine Dam for a few day's.
