20210319 Qld & NSW Texas

20210319 Texas was first settled in 1843 taking its name from the Texas pastoral station being the largest landholding in the area. The station had been the subject of a land dispute and it is thought it was named "Texas" because of the famous land dispute between Mexico and the USA.  Texas is a quaint town, very neat and tidy that has the required shops to restock your supplies and a must do free camp ground to sit back and enjoy.

The Spirit of Texas sculpture was commissioned after the devastating floods of 2011. The design was influenced by the abundance of water birds which appeared after the floods - a symbol of the Texas community's ability to overcome adversity.

The old bridge which was once the main road into N.S.W runs over the Dumaresq River, so at the moment I'm standing in N.S.W.

With all the rain about the river comes alive and once again she's flowing.

Yaa! it's happy hour so with a coldy in hand we sit back and enjoy the quite while watching the comings and goings of the campers who follow our lead, only THEY have a fire, Desie.  What is it about happy hour that last for hours 😜.

20210320 After way too many drinks, as we do, we slept like babes, waking to a lovely sunny day and as it's been god knows how long sense I've done any walking I figure what better time to start, so I grabbed my camera and headed along a dirt road for a short stroll while snapping some interesting shoots along the way.  I ended up walking the block while hoping like hell that this road came out somewhere, talk about never ending, well so much for a short stroll but I did manage some different photos.

The old ban shed is struggling to stand and with the dilapidated fridge looking over the ruins it only adds to it's appeal.

Then I came upon the rustic cattle yard adding character to a country town.

This tree struggles to stand tall as over the years it slowly drops its branches.

Wow! my eyes certainly lit up when I came upon the old bath tubs lined up along the fence, you can't help but love these country towns with the relics laying around these properties.

This cattle yard was certainly built to last and it's just a solid as the day it was made.

Well that was a bit of an adventure while roaming the outskirts of Texas and taking in the old wares along the way and I think I managed a few good shots and a bit of exercise along the way.

Look who found us lurking in the camp grounds, Heather and Ross live in Texas and it's always great to catch up with old friends when in town and as always we had lots to talk about.

After Ross and Heather left we went to dump some rubbish when we started chatting to a couple camped up for the night and they were a couple of piss heads just like Des and I so off cause we joined them for a night of laughter, we love meeting new campers.  We did have plans to have a corn meat and salad for dinned but when we returned we pigged out on the corn meat, anyone would think we had the munchies.😏

20210321 The weather so far has been sunny and hot with no rain about but Des is watching the BOM closely and following the weather conditions but for now all is good as we settle in for another day of relaxation.

With dinner prepared (from the freezer) Des sits outside doing his word search as I sneak a photo, when he gets bored he stroll for a chat with a camper he meet who knows many of the same friends.

According to Des it looks like the rains are heading our way so we decided to get out of Texas, stay said his camper friend this is a great spot and we're too high up to flood but our wise Des was skeptical and decided to follow his gut instance so it looks like Monday we saying goodbye to Texas once again.  We strolled the grounds once more stopping for a chat with a lovely couple who certainly didn't seem like piss heads but they were interesting and had lots to talk about.  We returned back to camp and packed up ready for an early start to Yetman were we can plug into power and see the rain out.

20210322 We had a few sprinkles last night but nothing to worry about so as Yetman isn't far away we decided to hit the road and have breakfast in our new town.

Gee! Des and his wisdom payed off, Ross sent us this photo two days after we left our camp site in Texas, all the campers had to get out so the streets a lined with Vans who can't leave due to the waters still rising.  The red text is exactly where we were camped and we were up the top looking over all the campers, I would never have thought the water would rise that high.
The Dumaresq River has risen to above the 8-metre mark causing major flooding.
