20200801 Qld Moura Mine
20200801 We are on our way to check out the coal mine at Moura if we can find it, the towns information centers seem to have little knowledge of whats around their area and we a constantly getting bad directions, but thanks to Wiki and my skills we arrived at the viewing platform.
As we turned off the main road the mine came into site.
Walking towards the platform and at first I though there was a statue of an Emu looking over the site but as I got closer I realised it was a large cut off tree, and no I haven't been drinking.
Coal has been mined at Moura since 1961, making this one of the oldest operations in central Queensland and also hosts Australia’s first commercial coal-bed methane recovery operation.
It was Moura mine in 1961 that became the first Australian coal mine to export coal to Japan then in 1963 it became the first mine to use drag-lines as part of its mining operation. In 2011 the mine still had over 280 million tonnes of known coal reserves. The Dawson coal mine takes in three coal mining areas that stretch over a distance of 60 kilometres and the actual lease area is almost twice that distance.
Now to camp up at the Apex Park on the Dawson River just out of Moura for a couple of days and just laz back and do nothing because there's nothing to do but walk the grounds and gaze at the river.
But I did manage a photo of the native wildlife but there's a dispute, Kingfisher or Kookaburra, I recon it's a Kookaburra but one of the camper's thinks otherwise.
02-09-2020 We stay up and had a few drinks last night as we sat outside watching the campers come flooding in and cram themselves up close to your van, one guy said to a camper "would you like to sleep in my bed" they were that close, not a happy camper.
After my morning herb tea in bed I drag myself up to sit in the sun and enjoy my breaky compliments of the local chief, Des.
03-09-2020 We drove back to Theodore to recharge our batteries at the showgrounds and ended up staying a couple of day after getting in thrilled in the Soprano's series which lead me to start walking after lazing around.
05-09-2020 I was up and at it early taking in a walk around the oval before a shower then we left for the little town of Taroom while taking in the sites along the way.
That right it's a tunnel 😅
We spotted the Isla Gorge that looked amazing only we couldn't find the access road the later I read it was just 1.3 km in from the Leichhardt Highway and theirs bush camping and a picnic area, bloody typical, so I downloaded a photo to show you. It consist of a natural viewing area, overlooking Gorge Creek and across to Devil’s Nest – a large cluster of jagged rocks jutting up from a distant ridge.
The patch work job along the Leichhardt Highway, come on guys just fix it, what a bloody disaster not to speak of the cost involved in sending a crew all the way out here to patch it up, so much for better roads for Queensland project.
