20200716 Qld Blackall to Tambo

20200716 After ten days of fun, laughter and adventure, we hop skip and a jump down the road to Blackall. Des copped heaps of shit from the crew, gee you could leave late in the afternoon and still make it by night fall, but you know Des, once he sets his mind there's no turning back.

Today is National Pyjama Day so get out your favourite PJ's and help raise the much-needed funds for children in foster care.

By donating you’ll be helping to offer learning skills to more than 1000 children, fund educational resources and help provide stable, positive relationships.

Des rescues his pot after it get stuck on a stick, I'm, too sexy for my legs, my legs, I know I'm a bitch.😅
The Blackall Masonic Lodge was established in 1887 and now serves as coffee shop.
17-07-2020 I spent the day at the library come information center catching up on my blog when an elderly chap comes in and when asked where he's from, in a very soft, low voice, he says, "Victoria", well I turned around saying, gee you said that quietly and we all laughed.

Drilling commenced on this site in 1885 because the towns dam, constructed in 1878 and a well sunk in the Barcoo River.  Blackall was the first town in Queensland to sink an artesian bore named, Pioneer bore, it was sunk to a depth of 800 m but was not the first to reach water.

The Mural is dedicated to the first drilling in the pioneer days at Blackall.

Wool, Water and Wool        Created by Robert Bridgewater to celebrate the centenary of Blackall's Woolscour in 2008.
This sculpture was created by Frederick White out of recycled bore casings to represents life in general; paths that sometimes converge or momentarily cross over, then towards the end of life, like the beginning, level out to a new time for experiencing.

Eagle and Nest
Made from railway dog spikes on a pieces of timber which were part of the old bridge, that the eagle's nest is a place to raise a family, just like Blackall and consequently the sculpture is about community and its connection to the Barcoo River.

18-07-2020 Des was catching yabbies, hence why we are still here so we walked to the thermal pool to bath these old bones, just before leaving this old guy started chatting away, but Des, sick of waiting left, leaving me with this have a chat standing in front of me, in his colourful dick togs, rubbing sunscreen all over himself, well! just as I was about to leave he says, if you get sick of your man I'm always here, and I promptly left. I said ha Des, Mr dick togs tried to pick me up, the dirty old man, he's a bloody smart ass, said Des, gee I thought it was funny.

The Thermal waters reaches the earth's surface at 58°C offers a spa which uses the artesian waters.

20-07-2020 It's time to leave as we pack up and head to Tambo to camp at Stubby Bend on the Barcoo River and the home of the Tambo Teddies.

Standing at the side of the cafe and made from bits of wood all wired together to form a horse.

In 1992 wool prices crashed, the district was in a drought and the community of Tambo were challenged to come up with new industry to sustain the economy of this little town. At a brain storming session during a workshop, developed the idea that Tambo could assist the wool industry, encourage tourists and create employment by making unique teddy bears from wool pelts and stuff them with wool.
Popular opinion said it wouldn’t work, but after many laughs, three women decided to bite the bullet and after many frustrating months of designing and planning, the first Tambo Teddies were ready for sale in February 1993.
The Tambo Teddy shop stands proud in the main st

Mr Stockman Basil Teddy Bear, if you have a spare $345.00 he's all your. These teddies are stuffed with recycled milk bottles that's turned into a softer fiber that doesn't seem as soft and cuddly as I would like.
The old relic is part of Tambo's street displays and I don't mean Des.😅

Arr! The old dunny box, what memories and one I am happy not to visit again.

This is one way to use up scrap metal laying around your shed and a great garden ornament.

We had a visit from one of the locals looking for a feed so I threw a rock at it and sent it on his way, is that more like it Donna.

I KIDDING
