20190820 Qld Toowoomba to Bowenville Reserve
20190820 We’re up early and on the road to Isuzu in Toowoomba, thank god our friend Glen lives not far and was there in a flash, returning to his place for a hot cuppa and a warm welcome by Ingrid who unfortunately had to work, so after we dropped her off Glen drove us around completing a few errands before stopping for coffee and a snack.
Toowoomba is the largest inland settlement in Queensland and one of the largest inland cities in Australia. It has been described as 'Regional Capital of the Darling Downs' and 'The Garden City'. In 1852 the squatter Thomas Alford settled to the north of Drayton and called his property Toowoomba. This name was eventually accepted as the name for the settlement in 1858.
Arr, check out the lovely couple, Mr & Mrs Powderham, the last time we saw them was at there surprise wedding in 2013 and they are still blissfully happy.
OMG, this bar once lived in Wynyard street until Des sold it to Glen about 30 years ago, I can’t believe he still has it, I’ll sell it back to you for $300 if you like said Glen, but that’s double what you paid, no thanks.
This old bar certainly brings back memories when it lived in the party house in Cleveland and bugger me dead hear we are again.
Our old mate gets cosy sitting around his fire in his Maroon beanie, its about time you got dinner organises big boy,π roast chicken in the Weber and vegies in the fire.π
Arr! it great to see this big teddy bear it been way to long, cheers me old mate.
After watching Tineka, (Ingrid’s sister) as Glen calls her, cooking potatoes in the fire, Glen recons he wants to come back as a woman, "A dumb F__k," which had Des in stitches and he’s been telling everyone he see's since, while laughing his head off.
The boys tinkering in the shed and Glen starts his bike OMG, there both drooling over the sound, beautiful sound aren’t they, says Glen, Yaaa, aren’t they says Des, arr for goodness sack you pair.
Dinner turned out a great success even the pumpkin Ingrid threw in the fire and Tinaka’s potatoes were cooked well, so eat your heart out Glen. We finished the night off sitting around the fire downing many beverages and reminiscing over the good old days, and there were many of those.
Our morning wake up call, Glen outside our van serenading to us from the footpath, Wagon Wheel by Bob Dylan only in Glens style, Des and I peed ourselves laughing.
21-08-2019 After breaky a shower and a bit of washing we said our goodbyes and headed to Bowenville Reserve for the night, I think 50ks is enough for one day.
Here we were parked up, all relaxed and having a nanny nap when I herd this bike drive down and said to Des, that's Glen as we both jump up and sure enough there he was, I missed you guys so he came for a ride.
We decided this would be a great spot for a catch up some time down the track, a nice fresh water creek, heaps of space and you can have a fire, so get to work Glen your good at organising reunions.ππ
Off he goes on his green machine, I just love catching up with our big teddy bear.
