20190822 Qld Miles to Muckadilla

20190822 Now for the long drive back to Miles to catch up with Allan and Carol for the night, passing through Chinchilla, known as the Melon capital of Australia and host a melon festival every two years so if your keen the next one is in February 2012. We arrive at the show grounds with the winds still blown so when Des went to see the caretaker, he said you can park anywhere, what about in the shed said Des, ya sure as Des walks off with a smile on his dial

Everyone arrived and were very impressed with Desies parking arrangement so after they set up, we all sat back to enjoy a few drinks and a nice catch up away from the wind. Carol, Rod and Kath piked it early leaving Al, Des and I to tough it out.

Our camp for the night, Des was so pleased with himself.
What are you up to Beady as I sneak in a photo.

23-08-2019 The winds dropped and its still chilly but at least the sun is shining and it’s a lovely sunny day as we packed up ready for the long journey ahead.

Carol and Allan with there friend Rod and Kath and we all know the dribble dick standing next to Carol, ha Des.
Is that Rod pocking his tongue at me?😂
There’s no leaving until I get my photos for me blog as we say our last goodbyes this crew hit the road heading to Birdsville with their mates Rod and Kath tagging behind, at least until the road turns to dirt then it’s goodbye guy.

As we leave Miles the bloody gears are still playing up so Des pulls over and phones Isuzu in Toowoomba and they want us to return it, well that’s not happening so he booked it into Roma, so back to Roma it is. After checking it out they still can’t find the fault, it appears its one of those intermittent fault that only happens when it’s cold, so we continued on our journey with our fingers crossed nothing happens.

Of to Muckadilla for the night, a quite small town with not much going for it especially after there pub burnt down recently. The name Muckadilla was first used as the creek name, believed to be an aboriginal word meaning, plenty of water. The Government drilled a bore in 1889 and although the water supply found was small, it was believed it had healing properties and people flocked to Muckadilla in search of a cure, a doctor of Brisbane endorsed the water, claiming it had cured "obstinate rheumatism in some of his patients.

It seems this old pub doesn’t have much luck, being first built in 1912, it burnt down in 1960 and was rebuilt not long after, included was a 9 room motel.
The fire started in the neighbour’s home beside the hotel and unfortunately spread to the hotel.
A big part of the towns history brought down by fire, through all effort couldn’t be saved.

It was fenced off due to asbestos but I crept around and managed some photos and the pool still standing.
Well I guess the motel part was saved but I don't like your chances, she's pretty much gone.
