20180531 NSW Tamworth to Walcha

20180531 The last time we were heading to Tamworth we had to rush home for a funeral, this time Des is sick so I head to the Info centre to collect some material, take some pic’s then head inland to the little town of Walcha.

The Golden Guitar, erected in 1988 is an icon of the Tamworth Country Music Capital, its 12 metres high and weighs 500kg.
Inside the info centre is a wax figure of the legendary Chad Morgan, advertising the Gallery of Stars Wax Museum, depicting how Australian country music evolved,
he's such a spunk😝
On our way to Walcha when we noticed the signs are up “Cows on Road Ahead” as they leisurely stroll across the road.
 True Blue Native Man
Entering Walcha, an interesting little town known for it's open air Gallery of Sculptures and this one stands at the entrance of the town.
The main street of Walcha as we begin our descent into the little town, I would love to see this town in spring with the maple leaves in full bloom.
Heading to a caravan park when we noticed the hospital and as Des is getting a fever and starting to shake we’re thinking we should get him checked out. I noticed driving here it was getting colder, I even asked Des if he had the air con on but when getting out of the van it was absolutely freezing, bugger living hear. Two hours later we emerge with antibiotics and strict instructions to rest, here's hoping he poos soon, bloody Diverticulitis, stay away from bloody seeds Des.

The Walcha Caravan Park, we don't stay in many parks but this one was well maintained with a camp kitchen, a fire place and if you happen to be there on a Saturday night the owners cook a meal for everyone staying at the park, how cool's that.
01-06-2018 We wake to a cold morning but warm and cosy in the van thanks to our little heater. Des still isn't well so it looks like I'm going to have to amuse myself today, so me and my camera take a stroll to town to check out one of Australia's most interesting open air galleries.

The creator Allan Hubble got the concept while one night watching Japanese whalers hauling a whale and its calf out of the water, although disturbing, Hubble felt inspired to create a life-sized whale. The Whale now sits on the banks of the Apsley River in Semphill Park Walcha.

"Generation Stick"
Carved from stringy bark and represents the continuum of life through DNA and generational rhythm.
"All Aboard"
This seat, represents a train made from blue gum and is 3.3 x 3.1 x 1.2m.

"The Warrior"
This steel piece is a rendering of tradition New Guinean imagery and was made in Walcha in 1998.

I found these sculptures tucked in the back of the Walcha Royal Cafe's quirky garden and are made from steel.

02-06-2018 Des is beginning to feel a bit better so he decides to chance a walk to town, I'm not sure that's a good idea you could shit yourself but he need to get out of the van so I, yes me, cooked breakfast and we walked to town.

"The Throne"
This seat was made from a huge tallowwood log, it suites me don't you think.

Des said yes take a photo at least Micky will get a laugh out of it.

"The Board"
Created in 2007 and brought by Walcha.
I don't know name ⟶but Des recons these artist are sicko’s, he just doesn't know art.
"And the cow Jumped Over the Moon"
Made with painted timber and tin and stands as an entrance sign to the Pre-school.
"Weather Sign"
Not my photo but that's how cold it gets here, sub-zero transformed this piece into an ice sculpture over night, made with local yellow-box and steel, the fountain depicts the reliance of a rural community on the weather, and the signs and stories that try to bring some certainty to the indifferent and fickle nature of the weather.
Even the post throughout the town are all carved, this is such an interesting town.
"Black Cockatoo"
At the end of town was carved from Tallowwood, it was created to keep watch over the Walcha district.

The park owners make dinner every Saturday night for all the camper's so we all gather in the camp kitchen with the fire blearing with our wine or beer and a plate awaiting our surprise dinner.  After woods we sit back and enjoy each other’s company and tails of our travels.
