20189592 VIC Rupanyup

20189592 Arriving at Rupanyup we set up and take off the bikes for a much needed ride to the town for some photos. By mid-1880’s the town had three hotels, three stores and an annual agriculture show and after the railway connection in 1887 a second larger flower mill was opened but as time passed the town slowly began to close.

The painted Silo at Rupanyup is one of six to visit on the Silo Art Trail, painted in 2017 by 29 year old Russian artist Julia Volchkova, featuring youths of the towns sporting team.
The CFA mural was created by Juddy Roller street artist, during her time at Rupanyup in 2017 as a mark of respect to all our volunteer firefighters.
The town set up a camp next to this creek for the weary traveller for $10 per night with the added bonus of showers for $1 for 5 minutes.  This project has had a wonderful impact on the town bring the much needed tourist.

Off we go on our deadly treadle when we found, Jack's Track, the 3km walking loop through the local bushland and wetland which was named in memory of the owner of this property, Jack Johnston who died in 2007 and was a conservationist who planted and propagated native flora.
We came upon this dam and instantly Des thought, yabbies so we road back to camp where he set his pots into action.
Nop,  nothing in this dam.
Rupanyup Railway Station
Built in 1887 and closed in 1982,but if your interested in this Gothic style station, its for sale.

03-05-2018 We woke to a bloody flat tier on Desie's bike, bugger thanks to google it was fixed in no time.  It was a shitty day so we had lunch at the local pub, Chicken Cordon Ble, it was huge but between Des and I we managed to gobble the lot down.

As one van leaves another arrives but check this set up out, how cute is this.

Later in the afternoon Des was drinking with the neighbor so I grabbed a beer and joined them, in no time the gathering grew, we were invited to join campers with a fire, and the fire won, many laughs were had by all.

04-05-2018 It was a shitty day so I blogged then after the rain cleared we road the streets again then I found a cute shop, see ya said Des.

Cust's Store in the middle of the town is an old style general store named after one of the first shops erected within the town and is now home to:
Rupanyup Home and Giftwares and such a cute shop.

My new Red Hat from the gift shop in town, very cute don't you think.

We can't forget the local fish and chip shop with the Mad Hatter painted on the window.

Then you walk inside to an display of many tea pots, yes I know more tea pot but there so cute.

This woman has over 250 amazing tea pot on display, what a collection, Des would have a fit.
The Old Flower Mill was erected in 1909 after the introduction of roller mills and is the only surviving example of a
multi-storey light weight construction, corrugated iron mill building in Victoria.  It demonstrates the importance of cheap, easily constructed and portable mills to the pioneering wheat growing and flour milling industries.

Riding the back streets I found these old wreaks and hung around waiting for the sun to come though the clouds, but I finally got it and not bad shoots if I do say so.

The Rustic Outback
To the town folk of Rupanyup, you once had a lovely thriving town full of life with so much charm, now all I see are deserted shops and your history falling down around you, then with the introduction of the painted Silo and the wonderful camp ground you set up for the traveller, I thank you, your town has started to bounce back to life, so don't stop there, you have so much more to offer, keep your chin up Rupanyup you are on your way back.
