20180519 NSW Lake Cargelligo to Condobolin

20180519 Des plots our next destination, Lake Cargelligo look nice Lee, situated in central NSW with two free camp sites right on the lake.  Travelling 231ks passing many little towns along the way that are a mere dot on the map and once again a lot of nothing but peace and quiet with the occasional farms in the distance.

I wasn't kidding when I said there's a lot of nothing so I might just lay back with my feet up and relax, that's a 'long' way to the end.
Run Roo Run, we don't mind this size it's the big Reds that concern us.

The monument as you enter the town is of Mr & Mrs Charlotte Foster  who were strolling through pine shrub and turned over a piece of quartz which sparkled, so her husband broke up the rock which contained gold, like in a plum pudding he said.  He traveling to the nearby town to secure miners rights and got on the piss spilling his guts of the find, on is returned the area was swarming with gold diggers.  At the end of 1877 there was 1774 ozs of gold found valued at £6801.
Well  this is it for the next few days Lake Cargelligo, once named Regents Lake in 1817 and later changed to it's name today meaning 'large lake' or 'water container'.

20-05-2018 Time for a ride and photo shoot of the town and surroundings so off we go on our deadly treadles, what an apt word for as I was walking my bike for another photo I accidently touched the throttle and ass over I go.  Poor Des crapped himself as he looked up and saw me splatted out on the gravel, are you ok as he helps me recover, apart from a twisted foot, bruised leg and a really bruised fanny (form landing on the peddle) I was sore but fine, my concern was my camera which I held up as I went down.

The elevated tank is just one of three which share the same design and can hold 20,000 gallons of water.
The unusual silo's are still in use but I can't help but wondering how amazing they would look painted in art, just a thought.
The people of Lake Cargelligo certainly takes pride in there town's appearance and the prove is in the pudding as they say for it is a very clean tidy town.
The Royal Mail Hotel
The Historical hotel was erected two section, the first in 1895 and the second in 1918, lets hope they had happier owners back then because the one now seems crabby.

22-05-2018 We can tick another town off our list of safe towns to visit even though the chip and drink machine's are all bared up and were told not to leave our bikes unattended while lunching at the Commercial Hotel who kindly locked them in the room out the back, now that's a worry.

Condobolin, soon to be home to the 'Utes in the Paddock' but unfortunately not soon enough for me to see, not happy Jan.
Gumbend Lake
It's a small artificial lake surrounded by 40 ha of landscape with picnic and camping facilities.
Des and I cooked dinner on the BBQ over looking the lake as the sun go'es down.
