20180404 VIC Cobden to Timboon
20180404 Here we are once again driving along the
Great Ocean Road taking in the amazing view of the ocean when we came upon these guys hanging from the cliffs.
They’re marking out drilling holes to hang wire nets on the cliff to prevent loose rocks from falling onto the road.
Follow the Great Ocean Road and be sure to drive on the Left when in Australia.
The scenery as we head
towards Forrest and past Gerangamete and back into Colac.
We decided to stay in the caravan
park in Colac to catch up on our washing so I walked the track and check out
the surrounding area.
The substantial bridge over
the Barongarook Creek was built in 1935
Lake Colac Boating Regattas was
held from 1879.
05-04-2018 Heading to Cobden to camp on Lake Elingamite only to find out the fire had gone through this area and silt was still burning around the lake where the firers’ were trying to put it out.
The peat burns
seven metres below the surface and the fumes are bad for you and the only way
to put it out is to flood the area, so the camp is closed until further notice.
As if loosing the
tractor wasn’t bad enough but to lose your home and all of its contents is just
devastating
As there's no camping at the lake we head to Brucknell's Scout Camp for the night bonus, there’s heaps of wood and we're the only one’s here so we collected some wood and cooked dinner over the fire followed by a few drinks and dancing music.
06-04-2018 There’s about 250 Scout
kids turning up to camp so we arn’t staying here, Timboon looks good Des where you can camp in the recreation grounds. Timboon has
an interesting little trail called the 12 Apostles Food Artisans Gourmet Trail
that you can follow and taste their yummy sample.
Our camp for the next few
days and we certainly dominated these grounds.

While I blog Des channel
surfs the news as he doe’s but he’s a bit chilly so he pops on my winter PJ’s,
I’m not sure that’s a good idea the way he farts.
07-04-2018 We’ve had some lovely sunny day so much so that I’ve even been able to sit outside sunbaking.
With my leg now healed we
can finally take our bikes off, Yaa, we head to town and found a bike track
that went all the way to Campbell Town, about 15ks, well that’s not gonna
happen said Des, kill joy.
08-04-2018 We went for another ride through a really rough track I spotted yesterday not known where the hell it went and when we found our way out there was no way I was going back the same way so opted for the bitumen road back.
Stopping at the
Railway Shed Distillery for a coffee and cake but not before we try their
distilled whiskey, expensive but smooth.
09-04-2018 Des rides to town while I take my own adventure to check out the historical Trestle
Bridge along a bumpy dirt road.
The
Railway Bridge over Curdies River was constructed in 1892 and although it’s no
longer used it is still an important part of the towns history.
The old Texas Longhorn, a breed
of cattle known for its long horns which can extent to over 1.8 m (5.9 ft) tip
to tip for bulls and 2.1 m (6.9 ft) for steers.
They are descendants of the first cattle in the New World, brought by
Christopher Columbus and the Spanish colonist.
The Lime quarry opened in 1910, the lime is used in many building materials, and dates from prehistoric times.

Berry
World, you can pick your own strawberrys or buy some of their home made Jam,
sweet strawberry chilly or dessert sauce and the unique relish.
Isn’t
she just beautiful, you don’t get to see many Draft Horses these days, they
were once used as working horses on farms for ploughing or pulling carriages.
Show her a carrot and she comes running.

These are for you Des, well you did say you liked them.
