20180305 NSW Parks to Forbes

20180305 We arrived at Parks the town of the Elvis Festivals and the first thing that grabbed my attention was the monument of Elvis, now that’s a must for a photo.

If only, 😋 I remember his passing like it was yesterday, Shirley and I were driving to Victoria Point and the news on the radio was Elvis had passed away, well! we couldn’t believe it and yes we had tears.

Parks host the annual Parks Elvis Festival in early January to celebrate Presley’s birthday and people come from miles dressed as the man himself.

Parks was founded in 1853 as Currajong, named for the abundance of Kurrajong trees in the area by settlers but then known as Bushman’s from the local mines named Bushman’s Lead.  Henry Parks visited the area in 1873 and played an active role in Australia becoming a unified and federated country then in 1885 the town was renamed Parks in his honour.

We decided to have lunch at one of the local hotel which sadly was pretty ordinary, sorry but really, frozen vegies, I might as well drink water and even the roast potatoes tasted old why, when there right next door to Woolworth's.




Onto Forbes located on the Lachlan River and 245 m above sea-level and it was first named Camp Hill by surveyor General John Oxley who later changed it to Forbes after Francis Forbes.

The charming main street of Forbes with its wonderfully preserved historical buildings and the the most pleasant of all , no high rises.

Lake Forbes
Our camp spot for the night with a wonderful 4.8 km walk around the lake with many interesting sites to view along the way, and yes I did it while Des made breaky.

The Lake late in the afternoon and if you want to fish their are loads of Carp.











06-03-2018 Our bloody TV stuffed up last night so we are heading Wyalong to hopefully find a tech but not before my walk around the lake.

20240911 NSW Moonbi Lookout to Walcha, Aratula to Home

20240911 On our way towards Tamworth, we heard there rain heading our way so our aim is to park at the lookout in Moonbi that has solid ground. The wood has been stripped around the camp site so I walked deeper into the bush and returned with a bag, there’s no stopping me when it comes to my fires. Des prepared dinner while I set up the fire, we had dinner then sat around my nice fire while sitting under the nights stars and enjoying a few ales. We had a new camper turn up today and camped just in front of us with his little Jack Russell Dog who came for a visit and took a liking to Des. The Moonbi Lookout, Perched on a huge granite outcrop at an elevation of 754m (2,473ft) above the sea level. The View overlooking the valley below, stunning. The Moonbi Lookout is off the New England highway then follow the Lookout Road to the car park at the top where there is plenty of room for overnight parking. 20250408 It’s still the same day as we continue our walk along the streets of Madrid, the main homes are units, mainly because i t has almost 3.5 million  inhabitants and a metropolitan area  population of approximately 7 million. Madrid  began in the 9th century with the founding of a fortress named "Mayrit" by the Emir Muhammad of Córdoba, the city flourished under Arab rule but was later reconquered by Christians when it became part of the Kingdom of Castile. In 1561, Madrid was officially made the capital of Spain by King Philip III. C heck out these buildings they are so beautiful and unique and I did notice there are no cloths lines hanging outside, but don’t be deceived there’s a lot of little nooks and crannies hidden out the back of these buildings.
