20160511 NSW Harden, Boorowa to Gooloogone

20160511  Well, what can I say about Harden, apart from being a clean neat town it also surrounded by farmland producing wheat, oat, triticale, to say a few and many different fruits.

Des stares in wonder, what is there to take photos of in this town?  Although many of the town’s shops are struggling little Harden still keeps up a good appearance.
The railway at Harden.
The Carrington Hotel stands at the intersection dominating the town.  The Hotel which has been refurbished only recently reopened after being closed for 4 years.
Somebody in the town has a sense of humour, well I laughed and Des just looked at me with a puzzled look on his face.

Des attempts to take a different root to our previous traveller and so far so good until we drive into Boorowa, we’ve been here before I said, I remember the memorial at the end of town but I’m sure we just got supplies and left.

As you enter the town the monument
'Lest We Forget',
is one of the main features of Boorowa that stands over looking the town.

The Boorowa Hotel, known to the locals as the ‘Top Pub’ has a history that dates back to its beginning as the ‘Royal Standards Hotel’ in 1880, then renamed 70 years later.

We head to the caravan park for the night but when we found there’s no television reception we said stuff this so we snuck a quick shower and left for Cowra another town we’ve been through but we are sick of driving so we camped there the night.

Previously the pylon were a heavily vandalised site but since the murals were painted by local Aboriginal Artist which depict the history of the Wiradjuri people the site is now well kept.

12-05-2016 Gooloogong’s origin came from a cattle station named ‘Gool-a-gong’ which was established in the 1820s by a personal physician to Governor Macquarie. The town has a tiny population with the general store includes the Post Office and Newsagency but the main appeal, (to me at least) was of cause the Gooloogong Hotel although it is said the Memorial Park with its plaques recording the histories of most of the town’s well known families is the town’s main appeal.

Yep, this is it, the main street in Gooloogong, don’t sneeze as you drive through or you could miss it.

The Hotel was the main attraction for me, they have the best smorgasbord we have had this trip and reasonably prised, not like Tassie.
Gooloogong Log Cabin Hall, was built in 1927.

13-05-2016 Well as you can see there’s not much to do in a town like this so went for a long brusque walk, without Des of cause or it would have been a crawl.  Our plan was to have a BBQ for dinner and after cutting up all the vegies we carried it all to the Babe only to find it wasn’t working, shit, bugger.  Now what to do, would you like to share a burger at the pub said Des, you don’t have to ask me twice.
Chris and Robin, a couple I meet earlier were there so we sat with them and Des told many funny tails of our travel experiences and we laughed the night away.  One of the locals, who was pretty pissed said to Des: hallow little man as we walked by him and we cracked up laughing, cheeky bugger said Des.

Say Hi to Chris and Robyn, this is there first time on the road with there new van and who do the meet, the old couple across the way, the poor buggers.

Another wonderful couple to add to our list of travel friends and a must to catch up with on our next adventure, thanks for a great laugh guys.
