20160415 Tas Railton with Phil & Paula
20160415 I don’t know why but
Des and I are getting a bit board so we phoned Phil and Paula a couple we meet
in 2012 at the Nindigully, a time we all remember with lots of laughs. Time to rock the town of Railton and catch up
with our travel mates so we packed up and left Deloraine.
Camping next to these pair
could be dangerous, look out Railton.
We stayed up that night catching up over a few drinks and as usual I dosed off, go to bed yells Des so off I toddle.
17-04-2016 We cannot believe this weather in Tassie it has been just amazing, sure the nights get chilly, some more than others but overall we cannot complain. We all walked the town getting some exercise and taking in the sites and the Topiary around the town are very impressive.
Check out Paula’s washing machine how cute is this and it cost under $100 and works like a trojan, we should get one Des.
Lucky
for us Phil has a pot belly fire so Des and I walk the train line collecting
old railway sleepers for Phil to cut up. You just can’t bet sitting around a fire chatting and laughing the night away over a few drinks with travel friends.
Paula checks out the
giraffe through the fence, very is creative.
I couldn’t leave out this amazing Anzac Memorable, well done Railton.
Most towns in Tassie have their own quirky ideas to attract the tourist this is just a few of Railton’s.
Railton is known as the town of Topiary with more than 100 topiary characters throughout the town.
Railton’s Great Elephant
Race The mural is based on one boy’s view of the Elephants Race, which took
place in the 1950s when the circus come to town. Two of Railton’s prominent
businessmen arranged to race two Elephants down the main street of
Railton. It is his memory of the – as
seen through the eyes of this young boy that the mural is based on.
18-04-2016 Phil and Paula take us for a drive checking
out camp spots along the way stopping at Lake Barrington then on our return we checked
out Lower Crackpot then onto Sheffield for lunch and a bit of window shopping.
Gee! don’t these boys look
serious while Paula gazes at the view.
Lake Barrington is the site
of a world-standard rowing course and it hosted several Australian Rowing
Championships since 1984 and has some great free camp site.
Lake Barrington is 20klm long and was formed in 1969 with the construction of the 84 metre high Devil Gate Dam on the Forth River
Tasmazia and the Village of Lower
Crackpot – is a whimsical artwork of model village built to 1/5th
scale and each building has a story to tell.
The name Lower Crackpot just cracks me up they certainly chose a catchy name.
The Village of Lower Crackpot, how cool is this.
Post Office Lower
Crackpot 7306
This is just so cool and very well done.

The Eiffel Tower surrounded by many miniature buildings.
Ain't that the truth alright.
I love this on in the gutter so simple yet so a effective.
We stop at Sheffield for lunch
and to brows the shops before heading home after a great day touring.
19-04-2016 The fog had rolled in so Phil grabbed his
camera and his apprentice followed along the railway line.
Phil perched on the railway
line trying to capture that special shoot.
Phil show me some great tips on
my camera especially the live view and video side of the camera and I am just
loving it and I need to upgrade my Adobe Light Room Program to the latest version.
Beer and Wine o’clock at old
Railton and this time our neighbors Neil and Shirley joins us.
Check out my new beanie, Paula
the clown made, isn’t it cool. It didn’t
stop there we ended up having a cloths swap only I’m ended up with more than
both the girls.
She really is very nice but
just a bit crazy, he! he!
Not a bad shot Phil took of the old
fart the piss head Des.
20-04-2012 Our last day in Railton,
and it’s been a hoot with both Phil and Paula trying to convince Des to spend
some of him money, go a buy a trailer to tow a car and you really need a
washing machine and some extra solar panels Des, you can afford it. Let’s get out of here Lee this lot is going
to cost me a fortune and by the way Des I need a new tripod and camera
equipment, ye in your dreams. I thought
as much, meanie.
Good bye to old (Phil &
Paula) and new (Neil & Shirley) travel friends, as the saying goes we will
see you on the road again one day.
