20160407 Tas Bridport, Tomahawk to George Town

20160407  Once again we are in search of a new camp for a few days preferably on the edge of a creek so we head to Bridport on the north east coast but there’s no camping so we left  for Tomahawk which is located on the edge of the Ringarooma Bay and would be lovely to camp only it’s not aloud, bugger.  We're not have much luck finding a camp spot so let’s try George Town and I bet it’s the same.

The water at Bridport is so clear all you want to do is dive into it only it’s just too cold.

We stop for lunch and a quick photo before heading off disappointed we can’t stay, again.
We arrived in George Town the 3rd oldest settlement after Sydney and Hobart and it has a rich maritime past so we head to Low Head to check it out.  We were tempted to park near the water but the wind was blown a gale so we found a cosy spot at the cemetery.

The Pilot Station at Low Head was built in 1805 and is the oldest continuous working Pilot Station in Australia.

08-04-2016 Waking to a lovely day overlooking the cemetery and Des begins breaky when a car pulled in and an elderly guy said don't camp here hop in and come with me I have 10 acres just behind here where you can stay as long as you like and there's plenty of water, do you want to go fishing I have a boat I can take you fishing, do you know how to reverse because I can't.  They returned shortly after and Des had a grin from ear to ear, what a character he wants us to park on his block and stay as long as we like so we packed up and moved around the corner to his daughters block that Peter (his name) was in the process of clearing.

Our home for the next few days thanks to Peter.
We decided to take a stroll into town when I saw these pair sitting very cozy on the back of the bike, how cute.
Peter is such a crack up, he built this fence out of old racking at the cost of about $4, then he buys old cooking oil from the fish and chip shop at a very cheep price then mixes sump oil to it that he gets from the mechanic to painted his fence, hilarious.

09-04-2016  Des was washing the van while I blogged when Peter and his daughter Belinda turned up to do some repairs on the fence so Des lends a hand and it doesn't end there.

Des helps Belinda spread the bark while I watch, well who else can take the photo's.

Our Pete is good at given orders, you must come up for lunch, Belinda you pick them up then you can take them for a drive to the Lookout, yes Dad.  We sat outside while Peter cooked smoked cod, rice and chips and it was yummy, I can’t remember the last time I had smoked cod.

Des, and Belinda cracking up over Peters  antics.
After lunch Peter insists Belinda and Gary take us for a drive to the Lookout where we got a great photo of the Smelter.
Then it was back to work for Peter and Belinda once we returned from our drive but not before we chat a bit more Des, Belinda and her partner Gary get acquainted.
Des and I make ourselves at home as Belinda takes over my camera.
Opposite Belinda's property in the George Town Archery if your keen to give it a try.

10-04-2016 Today is Peter's 81st birthday and we are invited to his place for lunch once again but we also decided to hit the road but not before we check out the Low Head Fog Horn which we were told is a must to hear.

The Low Head Light House was built in 1888 and is still in services although completely automated.

Every Sunday at mid day you can hear the fog horn sound, one of the few operating Type "G" diaphones in the world.  For some reason Des and I just cracked up laughing.

Keep a look out for Pete he lives just up the road a bit at the Brickfield homestead, he's a funny fella who loves a chat and he will look after you.
If you'er looking for a place to stay head to the Cnr Maquerite & George St in George Town opposite the Archery surrounded by a large brown fence, Pete will more than likely be working on the block so look out for him.  Give him a hand if you please with a few chores to lessen his load, camp around a fire if you please just leave things as you find them you will love it and Peter.
