20160302 Tas Surges Bay, Dover to Southport

20160302 We stopped the for the night at Surges Bay one of the southernmost localities in Australia and nestled on the edge of a cliff over looking the bay.  The best part being, listening to the waves hitting the shore while sleeping, theirs nothing better.

20160303 We woke to a lovely day with the sun shining and no wind, so we continued on our journey checking out the southern end of Tassie.  Stopping at Dover another lovely little town on the the edge of the bay then continuing on our way reaching Southport.

Southport is another of those quaint little fishing villages with fishing shacks built on the fore shore.
Southport Shipwreck
The Reef which lies south of Southport Island was named after the convict ship George the III which was wrecked there while on her way to Port Authur.  The convicts were released into the sea but were shoot by the ships officer.  The only survivor was a 10 year old boy who hid under the captains wife's dress.
The Ida Bay Railway ticket office at Lune River Station.
Of the hundreds of miles of narrow gauge bush tramways built in Tassie, the Ida Bay Railway is the only original railway in existence.  Several of the passenger carriages are built on bogie flat wagons built in the 1890s; some of the earliest bogie wagons in Australia.
Our camp spot for the night on the edge of the bay back at Dover.

04-03-2016  Des, not known if he was dreaming, could hearing what sounded like cars driving over water, and Des being Des got up to check it out and stepped straight into a pile of water, shit.  We were up and at it, quickly packing everything away so we could get out of here, it looked as though a pipe had busted in the mountains and we just happened to be right in its path, it could only happen to Des.

Desie’s early attempts to walk on water.
