20160316 Tas Richmond to Campain

20160316 Richmond is one of Tasmania’s most popular destinations, nestled in the heart of the Coal River Valley, Richmond was established s an important military staging post and convict station.

This fabulous old Richmond Bridge was constructed by convict labors from, 1823 to 1825 and is the oldest bridge in Australia.
Richmond Jail, if you were a convict in Tasmania between 1825 and 1853 every detail of your life was recorded, your tattoos, scars, color of your eyes and hair, height and weight as well as your sentence, conduct, punishment and assignment and all written by hand by Governor George Arthur’s little black book.
The village is famous for its elegant Georgian architecture, with heritage buildings dating back to the 1820’s and are now home to galleries, tea shops, craft boutiques and museums.
This is truly a town rich in heritage and defiantly a must to see, I just loved it.

I could have spent hours at Richmond but Des can only handle so much of old buildings so we left in search of a camp for the night and found a spot in Campania a quite little town with little to explore.

In the park stands this monument “The School”, well I liked it.
“Harvest” acknowledges pioneering families for their determination and achievements.
