20160216 Tas Wilmot to Cradle Mountain
20160216 Our next stop Cradle Mountain and as we climb closer to the top we can feel the
change in the air, time to put the heater on I
think Des.
The area was glaciated during the ice age (about
10,000 years ago) when a huge 6 km ice cap formed and glaciers flowed from its
edges carving the landscape into dramatic shapes with their unstoppable erosive
powers. Cradle Mountain was named in 1827 by Joseph Fossey
who decided it bore a remarkable similarity to a cradle
A fly by shot of the scenery on the way to
Cradle Mountain, the “Lonely Shed”.
Heading to Cradle Mountain when we passed this car club only we
don’t know what they are, I bet Johnny Mc would know.
We passed Wilmot known for its quirky letterbox trail which are made from scraps of material and shaped into elaborate mail boxes, very creative.
At the top and ‘OMG’ it is bloody freezing, we can’t believe the drop in temperature, now I get what they mean, “experience all for seasons in one day”, you got that right.
A shuttle bus takes you to your desired drop off
and you can either take one of the many walks back or wait for the next shuttle
bus, well! Des and I were ready to just hope straight back on the bus, but we
braved it, only because the next bus was 15 minutes away.
But then I downloaded an arial photo of the lake, so much better than mine and much more impressive.
Then I looked up, is that snow on the tip of
Cradle Mountain Des, no wonder it’s bloody freezing, about 5 degrees, we came we saw and we
left.
I get a lot of
laughs from the classic Wicked Campers and their wacky verses.
