20160206 NSW Tumbarumba

20160206  We headed inland from Gundagai and was pleasantly surprised at the rolling hills and the many Pine Forest and Apple plantations through this region and up to Tumbarumba, very pretty but unfortunately it is Saturday and these small towns all close by 12pm.

The rolling hills just as we leave Gundagai, not bad if I do say so myself.
No Rail Trail
I don’t get it, why not?  Rail trails are built on disused or abandoned rail corridors and offer people of all ages a quiet, safe and easily graded path to enjoy some of the most scenic regional areas in NSW while also learning the history of the area.
Another fly by shot of the Batlow Hotel as we pass through the town.
I'm becoming an old hand at fly by shoots as I master a photo of the many Apple Orchards along the way Ashford (my grandson) just loves apples he would be in his element.
Henry Angle Flats rest area about 8 ks from Tumbarumba where we camped up for three days surrounded by a running stream.  Named after a convict who was found guilty of steeling and was assigned as a servant and accompanied Hume and Hovell on their 1824 expedition, then in 1832 the steeling charges were found to be false and he was pardoned for his crime.  He moved to Wagga Wagga where he died in 1881 at the age of 91.

A lovely quite location apart for the bloody noisy cockatoos every morning about 4am, just as well we wipe ourselves out every night so we sleep through them, he! he.

07-02-2016 Henry Angle Flats is not just a rest area but an area full of history and a walking track along Burra Creek features many interesting reminders of the past gold mining days.  There are four walk the furthest being 189 ks so we aint doing that but we did manage the second walk up past the tunnels and onto the water falls.

We made it without killing each other, so far, a 8ks round trip, not bad for old folks.
.
The old photo features early smaller scale mining activity along Burra Creek.
Wow! Check this out, this is a Dredge mine at Tumbarumba, 1901, the pit is so deep that the tail race is elevated onto a large trestle so as to get enough ‘fall’.

I spotted a heap of mushrooms set up in a circle around a tree, ha Des check this out and believe it or not they were the good eating one's NO not the magic one's, only they were a bit too old.

We also found a tree full of berries which we tried only because there were fresh seeds on the ground, they tasted like plums so we filled my bag for the home trip.
Burra Creeks continuously running stream.

We stayed until the 08 Feb 2016, got pissed every night and had a wonderful time and we haven’t even had an argument "YET" touch wood, (Desis head).
