20151008 SA Haslam
20151008 We camper at Haslam for a few days a beautiful little location on the coast
line of Streak Bay, if you can stand the flies.
Although the town has no major industrial or commercial connection
anymore and has no resources, not even a shop but it does have a small camp
ground if you would like to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life.

The only employment in Haslam are the Oyster farming which seems like a thriving industry as we walked around the town.

Haslam Post Office (originally a receiving office under the name
Port Haslam) from 1913 and the only store in Haslam.
Jetty 1928
The all-important Jetty of 1405 feet long,
with its flashing navigation lights, was commenced in 1910 and completed within
three years. Goods could now be loaded directly
onto the jetty trucks and pulled by horse along the light rail line but once
road transport took over the jetty was reduced in length by half.
I remember we had a smaller version on the jetty going over to Choochie
years ago, but unfortunately once the road transport took over in 1960 the
service died out along with the jetty.

The only employment in Haslam are the Oyster farming which seems like a thriving industry as we walked around the town.
Walking the town we came upon these lonely discarded machinery
wasting away in the paddock.
The good old Suzuki left in the paddock as a reminder of times
gone by.
If you ever decide to camp a few days at Haslam don’t forget your file
net or they will drive you mad.
Des did manage to catch a tiny Tommy Ruff (Australian Herring) and it was tiny, but he kept it and cooked the poor little fella only because we were told they are nice eating if you can get past the bloody bones.
