20150603 WA Ellendale Lake to Derby

20150603  We were told about this free camp called Ellendale Lake set back off the road at the entrance to a station and surrounded by a lake.  We found our special spot in amongst the trees and settled in for a couple of days.

Ellendale Lake at sunset our special part of the world.

I made us a salad roll for lunch only this girl was determent to have Des's roll.  His worst mistake was when he broke off some bread to feed her, well! she never left him alone.

The antic's of a cow, she had our neighbors and I in fits of laughter, she wouldn't leave Des alone.

She chasing him around and around this fallen tree trying to catch him, and when he tried to pat her she would head but him.

She was determined to get that roll, your not having my roll said Des, meanie.

The funniest thing ever, this big boy wouldn't leave Des's girl alone, he followed her day and night but she would scampered off every time he got close, we all know what he's after, typical male but it was very Entertaining.

My very first Damper with the help of Jan our neighbor.  It worked a treat with the mince I made but by the next day it was like a rock, I could have easily knocked Des out with it so out it went for the birds.

We herd a commotion with a camper two vans up, this camper went to light his fire when he herd a rustle and backed inside to get his torch only to find a snake burring up at him.  He had his stock whip out trying so scare it off but he ended up chopping off his head. We were sitting outside around the fire cooking my damper with Jan and Mick when the snake was discovered, well! that was it Jan was gone along with many other campers, even Des deserted our fires to retire to the van, stuff that we aren't staying outside now, "bugger" I was enjoying that fire.

04-06-2015 The nights have been cool with a little breeze making it lovely to sleep and by lunch time the days got hotter so Des and I would go for a dip in the lake to cool down along with many other campers and again the water was very cool but refreshing.

Doug's favorite pet, you still want to travel in a camper trailer? Doug wood have been up a tree.
Yep! it's a King Brown and he wrapped himself around a campers mag and was still twitching, he was a very lucky man.

The next morning the camper remove his Tyre to release what was left of the snake while all the campers gathered around his vans to check him out.  It's as big as you said one lady to Des, well that wouldn't be hard said Des.

In rolls the Osprey waiting to feed off  the King Brown and out came the campers with their cameras and scared him.

We head to Derby to check out the big tides but as usual our timing is bad.  Derby tides occur at the end of March and April each year and can reach up to 11.8 m over 36ft, the second biggest tides in the world.

Des takes in the sites from Derby Jetty and Wharf at low tide and the water is very muddy.
Constructed in 1963, acting as an important station for live cattle and fuel oil.  The jetty is now mainly used for pleasure and is a popular place to view the sunset over King Sound.

Des and I parked up at the entrance of the jetty for an afternoon nap while waiting for the tide to come in and maybe catch the sunset.

At high tide enormous amounts of water rush in and out every six hours.  The tide is so fast people crabbing off the jetty put rocks in their pot to hold them down.

We drove around Derby looking for a camp spot but as it was Saturday night we didn't risk staying in Derby so we drove out to the three way and camped up tucked in behind some bush.  Des herd four cars packed with aborigine's pull up, quick turn the lights off, so here we were sitting in the dark praying they were not planing to spend the night but lucky for us they left.  Bugger me dead a bus load pull up so off go the lights but it was just a piss stop and they were gone.
Talk about some great places you take me to Des, NOT.

The Boab Tree are 1500 years old or more which makes them the oldest living beings in Australia and puts them amongst the oldest in the world and every tree is unique.
