20140729 NSW Billinudgel, Mullumbimby, Suffolks Park, Lennox Heads, Ballina to Alstonville

20140729 Ye Ha! finally we have our new Motorhome and its ready to go and so are we. We hit the road heading South to trial out our Winnebago in preparation for the big one next year.

Des is like a big kid that's excited about his Xmas presents.

Driving along highway 1 and I am still stuffed after a big fun Saturday night with many drinks, dancing and laughing with Karen and Doug then carried onto Sunday arvo at Shirley's place for way to many drinks till 3 in the morning, I'm getting way to old.
We parked up for the night at Yelgum Rest Area off the highway near Billinudgel to a restless night sleep with trucks coming & going all bloody night but that didn't deter Des from wondering around the site in search of some grey nomads to chat and drink with while I was happy to lay in bed reading my book and catch up on some much needed sleep which was impossible with Des in and out of the van, I could have killed him.

30-07-2014  Waking to another lovely sunny day but man it's freezing in these vans and because we still haven't worked out the inverter yet we can't turn on the heater.  After my morning cup of tea in bed we decided to have breakfast at Suffolks Park on the beach, arrr how romantic, but then we spotted the sign for Mullumbimby, Ye lets do it.

Shouldn't the sign say:
The Biggest Little Drug town in Australia.

The road leading to Mullumbimby as the fog lifts over the trees.

We saw sign saying "Farm Stay" now that would be cool then I saw a cop car pull up across the road, let ask them and as I approached a dog went off and he went for his gun, I shit myself and jumped back, man are the cop's tense in this town, as it turned out they knew nothing of the home stay so we promptly left.  I was standing outside the van when a noticed about seven or more cops with dogs searching the streets, somethings going on so we packed up and left at bit disappointed.

We walking the town which was mostly closed, I guess must be too early for these hippies, bummer.
We didn't go inside but the surf boards had a cool effect and I sure would attract the surfers.

On our way to Suffolks Park which was named after George A Suffolk who dedicated large parts of land for community use in 1922,  how sweet.  The roads are narrow and there were no access to the beach by car so we left for Lennox Heads

Des and I took a long stroll along Lennox Heads beach before moving to the lake for a yummy BBQ and salad lunch.
A beautiful beach with some crazy surfers surfing and the water is freezing.

On our way out we stopped at Pat Morton Lookout for a lovely scenic walk.

The Scenery from the top, Lennox Heads is well worth a look but unfortunately there's no free camping.

We were told there was free camping at Ballina only to find out we were given a bum stear, I'm sure this will be one of many on this trip.  We left for Alstonville were we camped at the showgrounds to recharge our inverter and take a nice long hot shower.

The Big Prawn a huge landmark as you drive through Ballina.

31-08-2014  As we had to be out by 10am for some stupid dog show that wasn't even on till Saturday we were up early, well! early for me 7.30am had breaky and moved the van and walked the town once more, why I will never no as there's nothing here apart from this nice old Pub that is slowly being renovated.
