20130104 NSW Bathurst
20130104 Bathurst, Desie's old stomping ground and the stories came flooding out, he's such a storyteller.
Driving into Bathurst and the first think I spotted was a tall fence followed by a large entrance, I wonder what that is Des, but before we can stop to check it out we need to get fuel or we will end up walking.
The race starts here with the cock pits on the left.
Here we go chugging up the hill to check out the highlight of Des's past, O how the memories came flooding back to the good old days of running a muck.

Arr it's a jail, I knew that-Built in 1888, the sandstone gateway, complete with Lions head and key typifies the architecture so prevalent of the 1800's. Damage from riots forced the closure in 1974 however it reopened in 1982 & is now used to accommodate medium & minimum security prisoners, hence why the prisoners are all walking on the outside gardening.
The town center of Bathurst and yes, more old buildings and churches, boring.
20130105 Time to check out the old bike racing track at Mount Panorama where Des and all the boys came every year to get pissed and give the cops a hard time.
Heading to the Motor Racing Circuit where the sign on the hill stands out from all direction.

One of the many bends at the top of the hill where all the entertainment happened, I mean! where all the piss heads were.
At the top of the hill where all the action happened, the boys came from all directions meeting every year at the same spot with their tents and a Ute full of grog. There camp was the biggest on the hill and they were the king of the mountain, well I'm sure that's how they felt. But from the stories Des told me it was a great time had by all which was full of much fun and laughter.
Des told me the story of these young guys throwing bottles in the old man's yard so a heap of them went to see them and hence there was no more trouble. After that the elderly guy was so impressed he supplied them with wood every year they returned and he even downed a few beers with the lads, unfortunately the old homestead is now deserted.
The over pass leading to Rydges nestled on the side of the track, what a great spot to watch the race. I wonder how much that would cost?
Talk about a blast from the past, the younger version of Des in the early 1980, the good old days at Bathurst when they never bathed. Saturday night was all the action with everyone throwing beer bottles and rocks at the riot squad and the unlucky ones to get caught were charged with inciting a riot.

Camping is free just out of town with BBQ and power, now that sounds like us, especially after speaking to one of the locals who said it was a safe place, cool. Sitting in our little van eating dinner we were settled in for a quite night when a car load of kids dropped a wheelie throwing up dust then speed off, little pricks. Then about 4pm they returned yelling and banging on the side of our van before speeding off again.
05-01-2013 Well that was a bit of a creepy night but we made it through unscathed, but we decided no more camping in towns.
