20120620 Qld Townsville

20120620 Marnie and Michael were kind enough to put us up for a few days in their driveway and standing on their front veranda we could watch the F1/11 fly over information, it was quite a site.

In 1819 Alan Cunningham, a botanist and explorer, and Phillip Parker King were the first European to record landing in Cleveland Bay and collected botanical specimens to take back to England.  James Morrill was one of 14 crew members shipwrecked on the Great Barrier Reef on board the Barque, the Peruvian.  Cast ashore at Cleveland Bay 42 days after the wreck, he was the first European to inhabit the area, living with the Bindal people (a local aboriginal tribe) for 17 years.

The Australian Defense Force is one of the biggest military expansions in the region since World War 11.

On the Strand: This huge spider overlooks the Strand opposite the Reef HQ Aquarium the world’s largest living Coral Reef Aquarium.

Walked the streets looking for a takeaway and couldn't find one so we ended up at the Cowboys Leagues Club. Des ordered a plate of chips just to tie us over.

21-06-2012  The boys took advantage and escaped for a drive to Castle Hill leaving us girls at home to do the washing and looking after the little ones, there excuse was the car was only a 5 seater, which in Michael defence was true.

22-06-2012  We all decided to go for a game of ten pin bowling; Des and Marnie haven’t played the game in years so it was a real experience for them.

After the game Aiden and Des couldn't
resist the temptation of playing a game on the Nascar racing game, of cause Aiden won.

After bowling we all went for a pig out at Hog Breath, "Yum Yum".
Aiden and Des standing in the rain waiting for Marnie to pick us up.
We ended up having a wonderfull day followed by a great night after a few to many drinks and I have the photos to prove it.

Marnie and Aiden sharing a good laugh.

Marnie and Aiden, I can't quite remember but I think they were dancing, clearly Marnie is not a big drinker.

Michael with his very cute daughter Mackenzie.

23-06-2012  We had a great wonderfull time but unfortunately all good things must come to an end, we said our good buys and left for Cairns.

A flyby shot leaving Townsville.
