20120609 Qld Rockhampton

20120609 Heading to the Rockhampton and our first stop the Rockhampton Zoo and the Botanical/Kershaw Gardens. The Zoo wasn't much chop not a lot of animals, but we had a lovely leisurely stroll through the Zoo and Gardens before hitting the Rocky Show.

Did you know that Chimpanzee and Humans share 98.4% of their DNA, Gorillas 97.4% and Orangutans 96.4%, now there’s a little bit of trivia for you.
Here's one for Davie I'm pretty sure this bird comes from Hawaii, the photo does no Justus, but the size of the beautiful bird was astonishing.

This one's for you Doug to work out it's name.
Interesting Tree it is called Kigelia Pinnata (Sausage Tree) Tropical Africa Bignoniaceae. When in bloom the flower is Blood –Red and blooms at night on long rope like stalks that hang down from the limbs of this tropical tree.  The fragrant, nectar-rich blossoms are pollinated by bats, insects and sunbirds in their native habitat.  The mature fruit may be up to 0.6 m long and weigh up to 15 pounds 6.8 kg.

Our next stop was the Rockhampton Show, Des is keen to check out the cow's "whoopee" where I much prefer the rides but Mr Chicken won’t go on themWe used our senior’s card for the first time and got into the show for half price, I think senior is a polite way of saying bloody old.

 Loved the Clown.
 Entertainers boogieing around the show.
Des was in his aliment around the cattle.

The backside view of cattle.

After leaving the show we went to check out a Rodeo at the back of a Hotel on that night.  Des and I were standing around the Bull in closure checking out the Bulls, they don't look that mean when all of a sudden this Bull went for us, we shit our selves and jumped back.  The show started at 7pm and we didn't won't to hang around for 6 hrs so we decided to head for Yeppoon.
