20120405 SA Silverton
05-04-2012 Des and I both woke with score mussels from the gorge walk or more likely those bloody steps, 284Ks of nothing again until we reach Broken Hill, now what can we do to amuse our selfs, not much.
The photo shows how it looked all the way from Wilmington to Broken Hill. Des reckons it looks just like the Nullarbor Plains when he went across in 1988.
On the road again, Des's favorite song, we must be crossing the boarder soon and then we saw it, thank god not far now.
As far as we knew we didn't have to throw away any food coming from S.A, well that's what we were told so we drove through.
Silverton was cut off by the floods, as seen in this photo the dirt has been pushed back off the roads and some parts of the road are still damaged. Des got the finger from a passer by when he tryed to miss a damaged section in the road which was not signed, but we made it to Silverton in one piece.
Des brought us a new Jacaru hat in the little gift store so I made him put it on for a photo shoot beside the Mad Max car which wasn't the original, it was damaged in one of the Sean's.
This buggy was out the front of the pub, I don't know if it was in Mad Max but certainly looked the part.
We checked out the Mad Max museum at the top of the town. There are many photos from the scene and a video of the making of Mad Max followed by Buggies, cars and guns all original.
Original buggy from Mad Max Filming.
I checked out the old jail now museum while Des waited in the car being he's over the museum's. It cost $4 entry and had some genuinely interesting aged item, I rushed through got my photos and left.
Early Maytag Washers around 1928 apparently driven by a petrol motor until electricity became available in the area.
Shock Cradle, electric light bulbs in sockets inside this canopy provided warmth in the treatment of shock, I reckon they were trying to cook them myself.

I couldn't leave out this old beauty "Epidiascope" - Is a type of opaque projector developed in the early 20th century and can project images of both transparent and opaque images.

Olary Hotel in the middle of nowhere, we stopped to check it out. We walked into the pub and the owner was asleep on the couch, we both laughed. He soon woke when I went to the loo and the door squeaked, Des had a chat with him and felt guilty for not buying anything so he brought a dried out sausage roll.
The Railway Station opposite the Pub, how country is this.
Another one horse town the only thing open was the Pub and that was empty.

We wonted to see Silverton where Mad Max was filmed so we decided to drove straight their. A great little town in the sticks, I would have liked to spend the night at Silverton the Pub looked inviting, but then again I think all these country pubs look inviting.

Silverton, another one of those great little town with much history to tell and all dirt roads. Charles Sturt described the land as the most barren and desolate he had ever seen and that's exactly what it been like all the way from Wilmington.
