20120403 SA Mt Remarkable, Wilmington & Alagator Gorge

After speaking to some nomads we decided to chance the floods and head towards Broken Hill.  We turned off heading for the mountains, what a cool change, the closer we got to the mountains the more appealing they became, I wonder what it's called? check the map out stupid, "Mount Remarkable" and that's exactly what it was.  The mountain had been manicured look, it really was very pretty.

Des stopped so I could photograph the view from behind which doesn't look much in the photo, but you could see the water from where we stood, and it did look quiet spectacular.
Mount Remarkable National Park in the Southern Flinders Range
They called Mount Remarkable Wandyarra "arra" meaning running water, Edward John Eyre named Mount Remarkable in 1840.

We came across a outback town 'Wilmington' and decided to camp the night in our usual "Stickily No Camping location" washed the van then went for a drink at the only local water hole.  I decided not to take my camera and said to Des, you watch I bet I'll regreat not taken it and sure enough, flying above were these pretty green birds I've never seen before, bugger.  At the pub this was the 2nd time our beers have been really cold, the barmaid said it's the old fridges and that exactly what they were, like the old ice box fridge with the pull lock handles and wooden doors, It's such a delight to see old items still in use.

04-04-2012  I googled Wilmington and one of their tourest attractions was 'Alligator Gorge' so we decided to take the Yamaha off and ride to the gorge.

We had to walk down heaps of steps which was fine but our worry was walking back up them.

I conned Des again, I'm sure he was worried these rocks would fall, he kept telling me to hurry up.
Ripple Marks-Imagine it is 600 million years ago, the rock before you with ripple marks is a patch of sand on the shore of an ancient sea, with ripples formed by tidal currents just as you see at the beach today.  More settlement fell over the ripple marks preserving their outline.  Since then major earth movement have brought the ripples marked rock to where it is today.
This is what we had to walk up and believe me, it was not an easy tack.

We had a great ride avoiding the Roos and Emu that ran across in front of us, now to check out the toy museum in town when I burnt my leg on the bike, Des's fault he made me move so he could get into the bike bag, so we had to go home so I could treat my leg.  After loading the bike which was much easier this time as he parked near a gutter which gave us more leverage for us short farts.  Each time we take off Des sings "Were on the Road Again going places were we've never been" he's such a dick.
