20120408 NSW Albert The Rabbit Trap Hotel

20120408 I said to Des, before we go home, we have to get wrecked in a country pub and 'The Rabbit Trap Hotel' sounded just the pub, now that could be dangerous.  We arrived just after 1.00pm in a free parking zone across the road from the hotel with the added bonus of hot showers, but first things first.  We crossed over to the pub only to be disappointed, the pub was closing at 3.00pm, bugger, what to do, we might as well get a drink.  We started drinking, meet many people, one very keen to check out our van so I showed her through, and she was stoked.  We kept on drinking and watching the time, it was almost 3.00pm when we heard a rumble come around the corner, thinking it was a heap of Harley's until we looked up and saw three old 'hotted up' Holden Ute's, HQ's and HK's returning from a B & S ball.  They made our day, the publican was out the door and changed the time on the blackboard from 3pm to 4pm, well! that was it Des kept on hassling her for the chalk to change the time again, no way, I'm not given the chalk to you.  Des was asking Phil the publican if there was anywhere, he could catch yabbies and with that he brought out a bag of off cut meat and told Des where to go.

Des checking out the Kingswood with one of the boys, we couldn't get passed the size of those bull bars and aerials, are they legal.  The cars only come out of the shed on special occasions and lucky for us we were there for this one.
The Black Pearl, this poor young guy got 4 fines on his way home from the B&S ball, 3 x $88 & one x $126, one for not having a horn, no covers over his spotlight & I can't remember the others, but he got done good.
He had a defected sticker attached to his car, I wonder if it had anything to do with the size of those pipes or the noise they produced.

To be fair to the golf club they have a deal with each other when one closes the other opens, now that’s country loyalty for you. We managed to push the time out till 5pm then the publican offered us a lift to the club and home, you bet! So we got changed and were picked up at 5.30pm. We meet many people had lots of laughs followed with a lovely dinner and a few to many drinks.

09-04-2012  Des was up, got his yabbie traps and bate, picked up the campers next to us and down the road we walked, found our creek and dropped the pots.   Before going to check the pots we dropped over for a drink and Phil told us he also put some pot in for us, how sweet.  Pulling the pots Des was stocked he finally caught some yabbies so he rebated and left them in over night.

We arrived home to find a half a bucked of yabbies Phil had dropped off, we had no choose but to go back to the pub and thank him, but just for a couple, well, that was our plan.  As the night rolled on the pub filled, people returning from the races in Tottenham.  For a town with a population of only 11 this pub was full on.   There were to be no meals that night then a menu went up and the food was flowing, between serving meals and drinks they were flat out.  I asked Helen the (publican) if she would like me to collect some glasses and she jumped at it.  Can you believe it, there was Des and I collecting glasses, clearing dishes, stacking the dish washer and washing up,this might sound crazy but we had a fabulous time.

Helen posing just for me, Thanks for a great night.
Leonie enjoying a drink with one of the lovely locals Allan.

Phil,Leonie,Des,Kerryn and Helen after the rush was over.  Helen and Phil were kind enough to give Des and I a stubby cooler from The Rabbit Trap Hotel followed with a few drinks for helping them.  We had a fabulous couple of days and the most wonderful time.
One of the many signs on the pub wall,     Hiding From Wife - $1 "nope not here"      $2 "just missed him" $3 "just had 1 drink & left" $4 hasn't been in all day" $5 "never herd of him "Please see bartender on arrival.
Our Phil is a bit of an artist he made this art piece out of Quandong eggs, I've never herd of them before but Quandong is a fruit native to Australia.  A rich native  insect  fauna has evolved to live on the fruit and foliage of the fruit tree.
Another one of Phil's art works these are real Yabbies on display.

09-04-2012  Des and I collected the yabbie traps with all the yabbies he caught and when we returned Phil had dropped of another 1/2 a bucket of yabbies, Des was on a high.

Des with one of his big catch.

Our camp for the last three days a bit of a dangerous spot opposite the Rabbit Trap.
All the yabbies caught by Des and Phil we cooked half and froze the rest.
We will never forget the friendship and kindness of all the country folk, the Publican Phil,Helen and daughter, Kerryn.  I can highly recommend  The Rabbit Trap Hotel, the sign below says it all.
